Both are lovely but my children’s classes are overrun with Sophie’s / Sophia’s / Sofias, so Lyra edges it by being less overused.

Lyra for sure

BatchCookBabe · 01/02/2025 22:58

Sophie 100%. Lyra is awful. (Sorry!) I just see/hear 'liar' and 'lycra.'

Neither

Sophie is boring and popular

Lyra is just awful.

Lyra I think

I like Sophie, but there have been about a billion Sophias in the last decade.

Saying that all the Lyra/Luna/Lena/Leila/Laras do rather blur into one as well..

neverthelastone · 02/02/2025 01:44

Definitely Lyra for me - there are eleventy million Sophies in every school class at the moment.

What about Lara or Lucinda?

wandawaves · 02/02/2025 01:46

Sophie. Not a fan of Lyra.

tellmesomethingtrue · 02/02/2025 01:54

Ugh why Sophie? It's so so common. So many kids are called Sophie or a version of it.

Emanwenym · 02/02/2025 13:33

I don't like Lyra. It disappears into all the Lila/Lola/Luna/Lara type names.

I'd be willing to call a daughter Sophie, if Sophia and Sofia weren't so overused.

Maxorias · 02/02/2025 14:37

I like both but Lyra is more unusual. Made me think of the Philip Pullman books and the constellation.
