Reuben or Rory?

ano24 · 01/02/2025 17:39

Think we've narrowed names down to Reuben or Rory for baby boy.

Both go well with surname, and middle name would likely be something quite traditional like Joseph or Patrick.

Not concerned about popularity 😊 just wondering what others' thoughts/experiences are?

I prefer the spelling Ruben.

Helpfullright · 01/02/2025 17:40

I have a Ruben

MissyB1 · 01/02/2025 17:40

I prefer Rory, and there are lots of Reubens around where I live.
Rory Patrick would be adorable!

BootballJoy · 01/02/2025 17:41

I prefer Rory.

LightCameraBitchSmile · 01/02/2025 17:41

Reuben is a lovely name but it makes me hungry

BasiliskStare · 01/02/2025 17:43

Rory for me but not my choice. All best

Mamma24578 · 01/02/2025 17:54

I love both. I have a Rory spelt differently. You could wait to see you newborn before deciding what he looks like? With my baby, we had a name picked out way before even conceived, used it throughout pregnancy, and when born it was thankfully still perfect, but we knew we might feel differently when they got here.

Thanks everyone! Nice to see so much love for the names.

@MissyB1 I do see this q a lot on MN, can I ask where you're based? I'm in London and would prob expect to come across more Rorys than Reubens round here interestingly.

@LightCameraBitchSmile I actually had no idea it was a sandwich before I googled, had never heard of it before! Are you US based?

@Mamma24578 yess I think this is what we'll do too. Just my husband is getting more and more dead set on Reuben so I'm trying to keep Rory on the table too if I can!

Both are fine, but Reuben gets misspelt a lot and Rory is not OK if you can't say R, and many people can't.

LightCameraBitchSmile · 01/02/2025 20:11

@ano24 no! North England but live down south - it's a pretty common sandwich I thought? I had one about a fortnight ago in Manchester. Maybe it's just me but you should get one, they're delicious 😂

shoopshoopdedoo · 01/02/2025 20:16

Rory. Love it!

Reuben is nice, a bit fussy for my taste, but I know loads of little ones, and none over the age of about 5. That would put me off I think.

vdbfamily · 01/02/2025 20:18

I always wanted a Reuben but first son got a family name that all the males are called and other 2 were girls.

muddyford · 01/02/2025 20:21

I love Reuben.

Noidea2024 · 01/02/2025 20:27

I'd go Reuben personally. I know of two Rory's born in our smallish SE village in the past few months, and there are two at the smallish primary school. I only know of one Reuben.

Moreteaandchocolate · 01/02/2025 21:21

Both are great- Rory is my personal favourite.

LittleChicken11 · 01/02/2025 22:17

Love all of these. Are you Irish or wanting an Irish name? If so, could try Ruíbin?

ano24 · 01/02/2025 22:28

@LittleChicken11 not Irish no, but if we were that name does look lovely!

Love Rory

user1492757084 · 02/02/2025 12:58

Both are handsome names.
I prefer Reuben.

Do you like ..
Robin
Rohan
Royce

ano24 · 02/02/2025 19:01

Thank you @user1492757084, I do love Robin (and Robyn for a girl actually) but a close friend already has one!

I love Rory, I've got one and he loves his name. He has a middle name Patrick too! I like Reuben too though but prefer Rory obviously.

MissHollyGolightly · 02/02/2025 21:59

Love Rory! So short and simple. Wish I’d thought of that. Less keen on Reuben, it’s a sandwich in the U.S. 😂

I’m Irish and have never heard of Ruíbin before. It wouldn’t be pronounced the same as Reuben anyway.
