I have a good friend called Heidi who loathes her name and finds it twee, particularly in relation to the Johanna Spyri novel and its various adaptations, and associations with mountains, goatherds and wholesomeness.

I'm a Heidi - it was hard growing up in the 80s - it was 50/50 if I'd get asked 'where are your goats?' Or have HI-DE-HI shouted in my face! Didn't help I was born in Wales either!! 😆

Heidi or Luca

fernie19 · 01/02/2025 14:57

Thanks all! It's interesting to hear everyone's opinions, and such a mixed bag too!

If a girl I think Felicity does slightly outweigh Heidi. (We love them both, Heidi is a family name on DHs side which is where the suggestion came from).

Felicity and Luca… beautiful names.

PreggersWithBaby2 · 20/02/2025 05:31

Love the name Heidi.. prefer Luca over Finley

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/02/2025 11:51

Felicity and Luca of the two (although I much prefer more classic Luke or even Lucas).

I generally prefer more classic names - anything that’s higher in the Top 100 (like Finley or Luca) and hasn’t been there very long, I’m a bit wary of in case it dates.

Heidi isn’t popular enough to date but personally I’m just not keen on the sound of it - Felicity is really pretty though imo.

scottishGirl · 22/02/2025 15:56

All the Finlay's I know are ay not ey, maybe it's a Scottish thing 🤷‍♀️ I would choose it, either spelling, over Luca.

bridgetreilly · 23/02/2025 10:50

Felicity is one of my favourite names. I don’t like Luca (unless you actually are Italian) and I’m not keen on Finley either. Finbar, maybe? Or just Finn.

timoteigirl · 23/02/2025 11:01

Prefer Lucas to Luca but both over Finley.

Definite no to Heidi unless you are Johanna Spyri super fan. Also, would you pronounce it the German way?

What other way is there to pronounce it

Felicity is beautiful. Heidi feels a bit twee in comparison.

I prefer Lucas to Luca unless you have Italian heritage. Not keen on Finley. What bout Felix?

Great idea, Felix is the masculine of Felicity. They both mean good fortune and happiness, so I hope they prove appropriate.

Hay- de is another pronunciation I've heard.

Oh I've only ever heard hai-dee

Emanwenym · 23/02/2025 13:14

@PreggersWithBaby2 , did you mean like Hidey?
I would say Hai-dee as Hay-dee with the same stress pattern as Marie or Louise.

Grannyinnwaiting · 23/02/2025 19:36

Felicity and Finley are lovely - also like Luca
Heidi is too twee for me

I really like Felix and suggested it to DH previously, unfortunately he isn't keen on it.

Felicity is fabulous!

Heidi and Finley but Luca is lovely too. Felicity is a bit to fancy for me.
