Do your kids name ending sound the same?

For context, we have Frankie, Heidi. We are due our 3rd in February and we do love Patrick. If our 2nd was a boy, we’d have probably used Patrick!

However I’m aware the names end sound the same the ‘ee’/‘ie’ sounding. So I’m worried he’ll look like the odd one out if we name him Patrick when you put his name next to his older siblings!

Also because Frankie & Heidi are 18months apart very close, and now our baby boy is coming with a larger age gap as Frankie is just turned 6 and Heidi is 4. So don’t want it to seem like I’ve grouped my first 2 and Patrick is the odd one?
he would get Paddy a lot but like Frankie gets Frank / Franks as a nickname, his name is Frankie and Patrick would be Patrick

Thoughts on this? Dh said I may be slightly hormonal and overthinking as it isn’t a problem and wouldn’t be😆😆 but I just feel I don’t know about it!

Other names I liked for him are:

Cody
Teddy
Brody
Louie

Patrick is a great name.

DappledThings · 22/01/2025 11:51

Definitely overthinking. Nobody will notice.

Scotttii · 22/01/2025 12:06

I think my heart is saying Patrick! It was our number 2 for Frankie and if Heidi had been a boy, she’d have been Patrick! It seems meant to be and I feel theme wise it is fitting it’s a common ish name (don’t like the word normal for names hehe!) like the other 2 names very known

It was just that niggle that my head was bugging me over

Two with the same ending is fine, and they go nicely with Patrick (which is a great name).

Three all ending in the same sound is a bit twee.

Tryingtohelp12 · 22/01/2025 12:11

My first thought was all mine have -y (ee) sounds at the end. wouldn’t have planned that though I actually don’t love sibling names that are too matchy matchy I think it’s odd to choose a name coz it matches rather than because you love it!

then I remembered my eldest is actually Tobias but has rarely ever been called that 😂😂 so I guess I have similar situation , with nick names all an ee sound but not when using full names. Go with Patrick!

BoleynMemories13 · 22/01/2025 12:48

You're overthinking, just go for the name you like.

Personally I think more than 2 names ending the same sounds too twee and matchy anyway. Two can easily just be two names you loved regardless of them ending the same. Three looks like you're deliberately looking for a theme. It makes far more sense to choose something you love, rather than choosing another name you like less just because it ends the same as your other children's names.

shoopshoopdedoo · 22/01/2025 12:59

Not a problem at all! And Patrick is lovely.

My two have names with different endings but the third will match one of them. Hadn’t thought of it as an issue!

Moreteaandchocolate · 22/01/2025 13:04

Doesn’t matter at all - Patrick is perfect!

Anonym00se · 22/01/2025 13:10

Patrick is gorgeous! I can honestly say that I never once thought of ‘matching’ my kid’s names or considered how they’d sound together. They’re completely individual, not part of a set. Just go with what you love!

YoureLucky · 22/01/2025 13:19

Are you saying he will left out because his name doesn't rhyme with his siblings? Is this a thing? Genuinely confused.

curious79 · 22/01/2025 13:22

Patrick is a great name.

Making the ends of kids names intonate the same way, sounds at best like you're Donald Duck, and at it's worst massively naff / chav

MaltipooMama · 22/01/2025 13:43

I don't think it matters really, my two won't have the name ending! The first ends in an "we" sound and the second will end in "a" when she arrives!

villamariavintrapp · 22/01/2025 13:44

Call him Paddy?

bluebunnys · 22/01/2025 14:12

Patrick often shortens to Pat or Patty

BootballJoy · 22/01/2025 17:52

Patrick is a lovely name. Goes perfectly well with his sisters' names.

sel2223 · 23/01/2025 06:17

Your DH is right, you're overthinking it.

Go with the name you love, Patrick.

My girls both have names ending in -ah- sound but it's purely coincidence. I wouldn't give that a second thought if I was having a third.

Enko · 23/01/2025 06:21

2 of mine have a similar end sound (esa efa) their other 2 hasn't. It has never been commented on.

Additionally I think Patrick kinda goes with the ie ending as you have the i sound so to me its similar. (I know the K makes it different)

Garman · 23/01/2025 06:43

You’re way overthinking this, names don’t have to be grouped or “themed”.

Confusedasper · 23/01/2025 06:46

Mine do actually 😂 I had never noticed of thought about it.

TinyMouseTheatre · 23/01/2025 06:58

I think it would be weird if they did all end with the "ee" sound.

Patrick is a great name and you are definitely overthinking Wink

SweedieLie · 23/01/2025 07:02

Mine end in ee, er and ah...never even thought about it before!

Eenameenadeeka · 23/01/2025 07:26

Overthinking, all 3 names are lovely , and all lovely together. I think 2 with the same ending is coincidence and 3 would be a bit much. Hadn't thought too much about it much but we have 4 and none of ours end the same.

ArmyBarbie · 23/01/2025 07:42

Ours have the same ending. It wasn't deliberate and I didn't even notice until afterwards. If we had a 3rd I wouldn't have the same ending as I wouldn't want it to seem deliberate.

ChocoChocoLatte · 23/01/2025 09:53

You're overthinking. Mine all have different sounding names so they know who's getting shouted on Grin

namechangefornames · 24/01/2025 22:45

You are definitely overthinking this! Patrick is great.

Two of my kids (my DDs) end with an -a but my DS ends with a -ie sound.
