Hamish or Murray

Trying to decide on a name for our second son, who is due soon.

Our first is called Angus, and we are Scottish (if that wasn't obvious Grin)

DH and I love both and just can't make the final call.

I maybe have a VERY slight preference for Hamish but I worry that Angus and Hamish are a extremely stereotypical and predictable sibling set, DH isn't concerned about this and pointed out that they are individuals so we shouldn't be thinking so much about how they sounds as siblings.

Any views would be helpful!

Best dc in my school was called Murray.... Nicknamed Haggis his entire school life!!.
Hamish was my best dcat!!
So either for me!!.
What initial surname op? Could it make anything rude /daft with either initial mix?

Murray and Angus are both places, I prefer Hamish and Angus

The place is Moray.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 22/01/2025 11:24

Love Hamish.

@Parratha Moray (pronounced Murray) is next to Aberdeenshire.

Lindy2 · 22/01/2025 11:30

I've always liked Murray.

There was a rather cool boy called Murray in my Primary School. I think the like of the name has stuck from then.

Hamish is also nice though.

MiddleAgedDread · 22/01/2025 12:34

I know an Angus with a son called Murray! That said, I prefer Hamish. Murray is a bit too surnamey for me and the local authority thing is a bit too much in Scotland, even if it is spelt differently.

Moreteaandchocolate · 22/01/2025 12:55

Both are great names. I think Murray is my favourite personally, but both are nice choices.

shoopshoopdedoo · 22/01/2025 12:57

Love Hamish! And Angus.

Not keen on Murray, sounds like a surname to me and also reminds me of curry! But I’m English so maybe ignore me.

TheBoysAndTheBallet · 22/01/2025 12:58

I vote Murray, it's one of my favourite names.

weebarra · 22/01/2025 13:01

I like both, but definitely prefer Angus.

Doublethecuddles · 22/01/2025 13:03

Hamish, one of my favourite names

AdaColeman · 22/01/2025 13:05

Murray gets my vote, it's so cool!

Hedjwitch · 22/01/2025 13:09

Not keen on Murray but agree Hamish and Angus can sound a bit of a stereotypical pairing. Other options could be:
Iain
Jamie
Fraser
Lachlan
Ruaridh
Conal
Douglas
Euan

PixieandDelilahsmum · 22/01/2025 13:11

Hamish is a fabulous name.

EggandStress · 22/01/2025 13:55

Hamish. Lovely name.

Moominmoko · 22/01/2025 14:48

I think Murray is better. I'd consider is for a future DS if I didn't live in Moray!

Hamish is just a bit too stereotypically Scottish, which I say as a Scottish person! Plus the only Hamish I gave ever known was a bloody nightmare of a child.

roobyred · 22/01/2025 14:58

Hamish! Lovely name. I've never met a horrible one.

RedLightsStopSigns · 22/01/2025 14:59

I love Hamish. I’m Scottish too and every Hamish I’ve known has been gorgeous! I don’t like Murray, but maybe that’s because it’s my cousin’s dog’s name 😄

I think Angus and Hamish are fabulous together.

Needmorelego · 22/01/2025 15:00

I vote for Hamish 🙂

SirChenjins · 22/01/2025 15:03

Hamish 100% - it’s a fab name. Murray always reminds me of the dweeby boy I was at school with.

ShowAndGo · 22/01/2025 15:10

I know a pair of Scottish terriers called Hamish and Angus!

I love the name Hamish but maybe Murray is a little more unusual?

EWAB · 22/01/2025 15:11

Sholto!

veraswaistcoat · 22/01/2025 15:12

We had hamsters called Hamish and Angus!

ShelfObsessed · 22/01/2025 15:13

Hamish is much nicer.
