We know we want to use both names but are torn on which goes first. Advice? Thank you

Samuel Stanley. It just sounds better to me.

Wannabeamummybad · 16/01/2025 21:33

Sorry OP, I prefer Samuel by itself and I do not like any of the above combinations 🙈

PlaneNoiz · 16/01/2025 21:34

Sorry OP. I dislike both names.

FluffMagnet · 16/01/2025 21:36

Samuel is nice. Stanley, to me, has no redeeming features and I'm baffled by its recent popularity.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 16/01/2025 21:39

Samuel Stanley.
Stanley is awful

Emanwenym · 16/01/2025 22:09

Samuel

Jabbabong · 16/01/2025 22:20

Not a fan of Stanley. It conjures up images of that god awful oversized cup and the imbeciles that buy them.

ISaidOopsUpsideYourHead · 16/01/2025 22:43

I like alliteration, but would not want SS for initials.

Out of the two, I prefer Samuel.

Moreteaandchocolate · 16/01/2025 22:45

Samuel is one of my favourite names, but I feel I need to stand up for Stanley! I know a very cool teen called Stanley who the name suits brilliantly- it’s the kind of name that grows on you once you know someone young with the name. It also has the advantage of being much less commonly used than Samuel (certainly across the age ranges). Team Stanley!

bluebunnys · 16/01/2025 22:56

I don't like either of them, but I certainly wouldn't combine them!

RudalDweller · 17/01/2025 00:02

Just imagine the shortening - Stan Sam it Sam Stan - both sound like a nickname

MumChp · 17/01/2025 00:03

Samuel Stanley

RogueFemale · 17/01/2025 00:05

I would choose the name on the basis of which first name you want your son to be called in day to day life. His second name won't be used except on forms.

StormingNorman · 17/01/2025 00:05

Are they family names? Stanley doesn’t really translate to the modern day. I think of Eminem’s stalker and thermos flasks. so by default I would choose…

Samual Stanley

Enough4me · 17/01/2025 00:08

The SS together doesn't work. If you have another name I'd add it in:
Samuel Peter Stanley
Samuel Luke Stanley

RubyMentor · 17/01/2025 00:09

Samuel Stanley sounds great. My grandfather was Stanley and he was lovely. It may not be popular but I like it.

HonestCrab · 17/01/2025 00:24

I think Stanley Samuel sounds better. I'm not keen on either name, not that there's anything wrong with them. I just find Sam dreadfully common and Stanley does make me think Eminem stalker and Stanley cups...😬

DramaAlpaca · 17/01/2025 00:56

I don't like them together, tbh.

Do you prefer Sam or Stan, because that's what he'll be known as.

user1492757084 · 17/01/2025 04:37

Samuel first, but I don't really like the combo..
SS is not the best as his initials. Look up SS during WWII.

chattyness · 17/01/2025 04:46

Samuel Stanley flows better but even then it seems a bit clunky

reichs79 · 17/01/2025 05:27

Samual Stanley. I really don't like Stanley.

Pick your favourite first name. Barely anyone will use or even know the middle, so it doesn’t really matter what it is or if it “flows”.

I prefer Samuel.

Cornwallian · 17/01/2025 06:38

I had a great grandfather called Samuel Stanley! He died at the battle of the Somme. His son, my grandfather, was born posthumously and named Stanley known as Stan. I have used both names within the names of my own two sons. Quite a coincidence and obviously I love both names but I think Samuel Stanley flows best.

I also know several teen Stanley’s and it’s a great name which started to make a comeback about 15 years ago but with less of the blanket coverage of Freddie, Alfie and Arthur. Ignore the haters.

UnpropitiousNightmares · 17/01/2025 07:34

Samuel

Not a fan of Stanley at all but it does sound better added to Samuel rather than used as a first name.
