Anyone changed their child’s name online?

Hi, we’ve changed our nearly two year olds spelling of his first name a few months ago as people weren’t getting the pronunciation of his original name. We did it online through a company, who sent a certificate and we then paid a solicitor to counter sign it as an official witness.
We haven’t applied for his new passport yet but will do this year. We didn’t do the official deedpoll( it seemed too complicated) we were wondering will we need to do it in the future or will the name certificate be enough?

Has anyone ran into complications by not doing the full deed poll change on gov website?

Many thanks

Did the company do it as an unenrolled deed poll or enrolled? Some official documents will only accept the enrolled version Government Policy

This looks like a very simple process and only costs £50 if all with Parental Responsibility agree plus two witnesses.

Change your name by deed poll

A deed poll recognises a change of name of an adult or child - make your own, use official forms, or get one through a specialist agency or solicitor

It was unenrolled. The company says that it is widely accepted , I was just wondering if anyone did have any difficulties with it? And what happens when my son is 16? For his national insurance number? What name will it be then?

Of course you'll need to change it properly if you want the new name on official documents.

A Google looks like it will likely be fine as you'll be applying for things for the first time. The issues happen when replacing old documents or if it looks like you are using one name for professional and one for personal
