Help! My partner and I are down to two girl names - Morven (big peak/child of the sea) or Flora (Flower).

Which is better? Both work well with middle and last names. Initials are fine. Baby doesn't look like one name more than the other.

Love them both….not helpful 😂. I heard Flora recently on tv as a character in something and actually thought to myself that it was a lovely name. Morven will probably often get misspelled as Morvern if that’s a consideration!

MaybeItWasMe · 07/01/2025 23:24

Both lovely.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 07/01/2025 23:26

Where do you live? If outside of Scotland I’d go with Flora as I think people outside of Scotland may struggle with the spelling or pronounciation of it. I’ve never heard the name before and wouldn’t be sure exactly how to say it. I also think flower is a nicer meaning than ‘big peak.’

IfUCantDance · 07/01/2025 23:26

I absolutely LOVE Flora. Not as keen on Morven as it reminds me of Morden tube station.

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/01/2025 23:28

Flora is lovely!

MajorCarolDanvers · 07/01/2025 23:36

Much prefer Morven

SizzlingPrickle · 07/01/2025 23:39

I love love love Flora!

MotherJessAndKittens · 07/01/2025 23:40

Not in Scotland

MotherJessAndKittens · 07/01/2025 23:41

I mean pronunciation. Both are nice.

Nextyearhopes · 07/01/2025 23:42

Flora is lovely (but don’t you dare spoil it by calling her Flossie).

Enko · 07/01/2025 23:42

Love Flora as a name but sadly doesn't work w our surname .

Firsttimebabymummy · 07/01/2025 23:51

Flora

Morven is spectacular for a Scottish lass.
It sounds strong. Morven climbs, dances and explores.

Flora seems less confident.

JustCuttinAboot · 08/01/2025 13:42

Both lovely, but Morven just wins for me

timoteigirl · 08/01/2025 13:56

Morven

FrogFairy · 08/01/2025 14:04

Both are lovely names but as Flora is so popular I would choose Morven.

Gingerkittykat · 08/01/2025 14:21

Morven.

My mum wanted to call me Morven after spending summers at Morven in Caithness but my dad vetoed it.

Bournetilly · 08/01/2025 14:28

Flora is a beautiful name. Would have been on our list for DC2 if DC1s name wasn’t so similar.

Mugcake · 08/01/2025 16:56

Flora is prettier! Really lovely name
I haven't heard of morven I have heard of morva though. I don't think it's particularly nice it sounds like mourn to me.

ShadowsOfTheDays · 08/01/2025 17:03

Flora I always think is very wet and drippy.
