Merryn vs Elowen

Looking for something with ocean/sea/cornish roots.

Is Merryn getting too popular?

Elowen = pronounced El-OH-en,

Lowen - prefer this to Lowenna but OH not sure

Verran - too out there?

Carenza (prefer this spelling like the archaeologist)

I love Merryn. One of my all time top names.

tealandteal · 06/01/2025 16:43

Lerryn as an alt if you like Merryn?

shoopshoopdedoo · 06/01/2025 16:44

Love Merryn

SunshineFlowersFood · 06/01/2025 16:45

Merryn used to be my all time favourite name and I loved it. Then I realised it doesn't sound good in my/my family's local accent and so I've had to let it go as it didn't match the pronunciation in my head :( but I love love it. Also really like Verran from your list, a name I've not heard before.

EatingHealthy · 06/01/2025 16:49

Not sure if I'm projecting it incorrectly / it's an accent issue but I don't like Elowen because to me it sounds like a list of letters: L-O-N

Really like Merryn/ Carenza/ Verran.

(And find Lowen just a bit blah)

Seacatt · 06/01/2025 16:50

Merryn is my favourite.

Moreteaandchocolate · 06/01/2025 16:51

Merryn is stunning! I don’t know anyone with the name - it’s not popular round here.

Elowen is lovely too.

Germanjio · 06/01/2025 16:52

I also like Fallon. I have no idea if it's Cornish but it has a similar vibe

Axelotl · 06/01/2025 16:54

I like Merryn. Only ever met 1, she'd be 60 something now.

Falling makes me think of Dynasty

MistyF · 06/01/2025 16:59

Marina - possible meaning is 'of the sea', it's occasionally name of St. Margaret of Antioch in Eastern Orthodox Church

I am a huge fan of Merryn and have met 2 in my life, but we do live in the South West. Another to possibly consider might be Sennen?? It's another lovely Cornish name in my opinion. 😍

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 06/01/2025 20:59

I love Merryn. I have a Miranda.

spiderlight · 06/01/2025 21:06

Merryn is lovely. I know a little Merrilyn, known as Merry. Our niece's middle name is Morwenna, which has a similar feel.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/01/2025 21:10

Elowen. I don’t get the hype over Merryn.

Love Merryn

Same

OneStepOneStumble · 06/01/2025 21:20

I love Merryn but couldn't get DH on board.

What about Demelza? Very cornish - I knew one as a teen who was very cool.

CrushingOnRubies · 06/01/2025 21:25

Lowenna?

I like Merryn but reminds me of the village/ built up crosswords which is a nightmare in the summer. Love the beaches in that part of Cornwall but that village not so much

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 06/01/2025 21:26

I love the name Merryn, if I'd have had a girl I would've used it, absolutely beautiful!

Apileofballyhoo · 06/01/2025 21:32

Merryn is lovely and I never really liked the Irish Muireann, it's funny how they are similar and I really like one and really don't like the other!

HugoYorway · 07/01/2025 21:15

@OneStepOneStumble , What about Demelza? It's a place name and says 'My parents watched Poldark'.

Merryn hands down. Was on our list. Love it so much! I’d think Elowen used FAR more often??

Sunnyflow · 10/01/2025 23:17

Merryn

MaterCogitaVera · 11/01/2025 01:36
