Sibling name for ..

I'm looking for a sibling name to go with Isla and Cora.

Girls names I like are:
Merrie
Ines
Violet (possibly too similar to Isla)
Rose
Miriam (Miri for short)
Vivienne

I've never liked a single boys name but if I had to, maybe Reuben.

Any suggestions welcome, and also if you think any of the above names would go well.

Thanks

Well you’re going to have to think of a boys name if the baby boy. Mind you Reuben is good strong name so I’d say just go with that. It’s no point suggesting any names as I’m sure you’ve read every baby name book at there if you can only find one you like.

I’d say Isla, Cora and Rose are perfect together.

Love the name Ruby!

I also nearly called my youngest Rosa. Do you think it would be a bit much with the other 2 names ending in 'a'?

I love Ines and Rose, plus I think they “work” best with your daughters’ names.

I’m not especially keen on Reuben but it’s OK - seems really popular recently.

Sunnyflow · 02/01/2025 21:39

I like Miriam best for a girl.

For a boy Reuben is ok, but I prefer Quentin or Ronan.

Isla, Cora and Rosa are fine imo - yes all 2 syllable and end in “a” but they’ll hardly be the only sibset out there where that’s the case (and they have different enough sounds to not get confused).

I’d avoid Ines and Violet as a bit similar sound/look to Isla and am meh on your other picks apart from lovely Rose/Rosa.

Anya/Anna or Nina might also work?

For boys I’d stick with the short, 2 syllable thing since it seems to be working- maybe Owen, Evan, Theo or Adam? Or even stick with the “A” ending and go for Luca!

Isla, Cora and:

Ending in the same sound ….

Melia

I like the idea of continuing on with an a at the end of your baby’s name and one syllable

So for girls:
Nina
Anna
Rhia
Rya
Freya

Boys:
Noah
Luca
Mica

Good luck!

Go with a name you like! Siblings are not going to spend their entire lives together, choosing a name so it ‘matches’ over one that you like more seems….weird? Why does one person’s name have to ‘work’ with another person’s?

No-one is bothered if their name ‘matches’ their partners when dating/marrying, and I have never thought of or even cared whether my name matches my siblings.

This really is only a ‘thing' when they are small (and even then, what precisely is the issue if one is called Malcolm and the other Destinie?). Even if they were called Rob and Bob, once they are adults (ie most of their lives) it is really pretty insignificant.

Ask yourself what you are trying to achieve by matching names? So it sounds nice when you say all three names together (does happen, but hardly a daily occurrence)? Other people’s perceptions of your family?

Far nicer to choose a name that means something to you - because it is beautiful, because it has a meaning for you, because it is a family name. There are much higher priorities than choosing it for the reason that it matches someone else’s name?

theduchessofspork · 04/01/2025 00:33

I love Ines - if you want to avoid two names starting with I then Lois is a great alternative

I think Merry is pretty odd as a full name, but nice if short for Meredith or Merry

Vivienne is nice - more interesting than Violet. She’ll probably be Vivi for short so you need to like that.

Miriam I find really dried up, but Marianne is lovely. Or if you really want Miri as a short form then Mirren is a nice Scottish name.

Rose is done to death.

I like Rose - it’s unusual as a first name and goes with the other DC names. Rosa is also good.
I don’t think Miriam goes at all. Mary would be better.
Reuben I also don’t think goes well. Rupert? Robert? Robin?
