Beauregard · 02/05/2008 23:35

yes

twinklingfairy · 02/05/2008 23:36

Yes.
Wouldn't choose it for a first name myself, but it is a nice one though.

SlartyBartFast · 02/05/2008 23:36

BoysAreLikeDogs · 02/05/2008 23:37

Lazylou · 02/05/2008 23:37

Yep, DD wanted to call DS James until she was browsing through the Arogs catalogue and came across Thomas the Tank Engine .

It's a lovely name and reminds me of so many lovely people.

AitchTwoCiao · 02/05/2008 23:37

love it

LyraSilvertongue · 02/05/2008 23:38

Yes, DS2 was almost James but dp said he'd probably call him Jimmy, which i hate.
He's now Jake and I love his name. He does too.

1066andallthat · 02/05/2008 23:41

Quite like Thomas-the-Tank-Engine, too . No, James is a fab name - do you like Jim?

LaComtesse · 02/05/2008 23:42

Yes - this was on my list of names for a ds. It's a family name as it was important for me to honour my child with one of my GP;s names. Turned out to be a shortened version of my Nan's name which is her second middle name!

scottishmummy · 02/05/2008 23:44

YES fine scottish name

Sibble · 02/05/2008 23:47

It was my first choice for a boy (since little always was going to call a boy James) but sadly dh aboslutely hated - said he would call him Jim or Jimbo so we have a Jack and Max instead.

scottishmummy · 02/05/2008 23:47

unknownrebelbang · 02/05/2008 23:48

James is a nice name, but depends what you want really. It can be shortened to Jamie which can be chavvy, but can also be quite public school if just left as james.

scottishmummy · 03/05/2008 00:14

in scotland jamie is not chavvy tis nice colloquialism

dinny · 03/05/2008 00:15

it's ok

LyraSilvertongue · 03/05/2008 00:17

Jamie isn't really a shortening of James though, is it. I like James but not Jamie/Jim/Jimmy.

scottishmummy · 03/05/2008 00:20

of course jamie is derivative of james in literature and verbaqlly

SparklyGothKat · 03/05/2008 00:20

DS2's middle name is James, wanted it as his first name but DH didn't

scottishmummy · 03/05/2008 00:24

jamie jim jimbo jimmy all deviations of a beautiful name

Clary · 03/05/2008 00:26

James is nice but do beware.

DS1 said to me t'other day "yes, James said..." and I had to say well which one - there are 3 in his class.
The other DCs have one in their class too.

But apart from that - many don't have a problem with popularity (I just think it's confusing) it's a fine name - everyone can spell it, say it, no need to shorten it, good for baby boy or prime minister or pop star.

youngbutnotdumb · 03/05/2008 00:27

DP's name is James as is his father and 2 previous grandfathers but I broke the chain and gave my DS it as a middle name! Just to be awkward LOL
