Eloise or Ophelia? Surname pronounced Lour-tun (spelled differently)

I always add ‘boobies’ on the end to Ophelia, some crap joke from the 80s I think…

UpMyself · 29/12/2024 19:00

Ophelia Tits

I don't really like Eloise because I've seen it written as Elouise on here. Ugh!.
Both names are long so they'll probably be shortened.

Oh, interesting! I know three people named Eloise and none are shortened! The two Ophelia’s I know go by Pippa and Olive. I imagine the more natural nickname is Fi though?

Eloise is lovely.

Neverold6 · 29/12/2024 19:15

Eloise is beautiful, pretty for a baby but sophisticated for a grown lady. And not as widely used as Elodie I don’t think

I add balls.

MrsSamR · 29/12/2024 19:19

I have an Ophelia so am biased as I love the name but I think it works well with your surname too.

KittyEmK · 29/12/2024 19:32

Eloise for sure

SpaceJamtart · 29/12/2024 19:41

Eloise is prettier and goes well with your surname

Ladamesansmerci · 29/12/2024 19:45

Eloise.

I have a Daisy Eloise :)

SorrowsPrayers · 29/12/2024 19:49

Eloise is a lovely name but she will be yet another one of the hundreds of Ellies currently out there.
Ophelia is utterly beautiful.

Moreteaandchocolate · 29/12/2024 20:14

Eloise is my favourite

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/12/2024 20:30

Ophelia is not very well liked on this board but I love it - I’m glad it’s gaining in popularity now (as it would have probably been considered “a bit much” a decade or two ago). I find it elegant and romantic sounding (and think nn Effie is cute) - the Shakespeare tragedy link doesn’t bother me as I’ve seen a few feminist revisions of Hamlet so I associate Ophelia more positively.

But Eloise is pretty enough, and quite French chic sounding.

shoopshoopdedoo · 29/12/2024 20:49

I’m not keen on either - both too frilly for my taste - but of the two I’d pick Eloise.

Justnippinginthegaragelove · 29/12/2024 20:55

I have an Eloise so I'm biased! I picked it because it's not too common, pretty for a baby but a strong name for an adult woman.
No one calls her Ellie although people often spell her name as Elouise which is annoying

BoleynMemories13 · 29/12/2024 20:56

I much prefer Eloise and it sounds lovely with your surname.

Ophelia on the other hand is quite a mouthful with your surname. With the l sound coming near the end of Ophelia, it runs somewhat into the start of your surname.

Gem359 · 29/12/2024 21:00

I always think Ophelia is a bit of a pretentious mouthful. I love Eloise though.

Agreed.
The Ophelias I know match their names. It's also quite popular now.
Eloise is very pretty and under the radar.

RoundSquareWithTriangles · 29/12/2024 21:07

Eloise

I would also suggest Eliza.

Eloise has dropped out of the top 100 now, which surprised me. I think it's lovely.

MummytoE · 29/12/2024 21:10

Love Eloise, or what about Louisa? Similar to Eloise but ends in the same A sound as Ophelia

user1492757084 · 30/12/2024 00:25

Eloise is lovely with your surname.

I also like Louisa, Eliza, Alice and Alize.

theduchessofspork · 30/12/2024 02:37

Eloise

Ophelia is too tragic

theduchessofspork · 30/12/2024 02:38

Estella might be an option?

I also like Odessa, but suspect its marmite

lemoncrisp · 30/12/2024 02:48

Eloise is beautiful.

cariadlet · 30/12/2024 02:56

I love Eloise.
