Please help! George, Eric, Sebastian?

I’d like a name for my baby boy that is stylish, doesn’t have thousands of this name in his classroom in the UK, and most importantly, doesn’t have a bad association or funny connotations (like Piercing Albert or Willie William that sort of thing)
I’d appreciate any sensible opinion and insights. So far I like these names. Thanks!!

Oh god none of those. George if you really must

minipie · 19/12/2024 22:55

I like Sebastian.

George is fine.

Not Eric.

Gregory?

@leia24 why do you think George? Thanks! Any more ideas?

Sebastian then George. I don’t personally like Eric.

Moreteaandchocolate · 19/12/2024 23:24

George is my favourite boys name! It is popular though. Sebastian is great too - I love “Seb” for short,

WaxingGibbon · 19/12/2024 23:30

I don't agree Eric is a stylish name. I think it's awful. I like Sebastian. Not overly keen on George.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 19/12/2024 23:44

Definitely no to Eric.
not personally keen on George but it’s not too bad and is popular.

sebastian with Seb as a shortening is alright

Any name that hovers around 70 to around 130 in the baby name lists would be your best bet for recognizable but not very popular names. George is in the top 10 from 2023.

Gabriel
Samuel
Myles
Elliott
Joseph
Stanley
Dominic
Jasper
Reuben
Benjamin
Luke
Austin

George

natwalesrug · 19/12/2024 23:57

Laurence/ Laurie…stylish but not very popular.

Ellmau · 20/12/2024 00:08

George is a good solid name which you can't go wrong with, but there will be quite a few of them around.

Personally I love Sebastian but some will think it's too posh/fancy/whatever.

Eric is an 80 year old bore.

What about:

Jasper
Hugo
Maximilian
Felix
Lawrence

BeretInParis · 20/12/2024 00:29

Am I very immature to always be reminded of the word 'erection' when I hear the name Eric? Probably yes. But I've put that association in your mind now. Sorry not sorry!

George and Sebastian are nice though.

Sunnyflow · 20/12/2024 06:28

Sebastian reminds me of sebaceous (oily) and I dislike the short forms Seb/Sebbie and Basty

redteapot · 20/12/2024 06:33

I am a secondary school teacher and have all three of those boys in one class! We only have a couple of Erics in the whole school, lots more Sebastians and Georges. Both lovely names, but not uncommon x

CookieMonster28 · 20/12/2024 06:39

George

mellongoose · 20/12/2024 06:44

See, to me, Eric is more Viking than Morcambe, but I can see it's probably just me!!

I also like Peter.

Probably a good job I had girls 🫣

Hobbesmanc · 20/12/2024 06:49

George like Frederick and Henry has that lovely classical feel. But not uncommon. Sebastian always feels too public school boy posh.

Eric has been popular stateside for years but not so much here. But it's not got the same vibe as other old man names back in fashion like Alfred or Arthur.

Lawrence, Gabriel, Edmund, Peter, David. All good solid names

MerryChristmasToYou · 20/12/2024 07:14

Eric. George too popular. Not keen on Sebastian.

Marmiteontoastgirlie · 20/12/2024 07:24

See to me Eric is a very small bald man. But I can see how its Viking connotations give it a bit more gravitas. Is Eric also the name of the prince in Little Mermaid? That’s a nice link.

However, I am just one person and everyone else might be thinking Viking/prince so don’t let that put you off!

Snorlaxo · 20/12/2024 07:30

I think the Viking spelling would be Erik which is miles better than Eric which makes me think old balding man too.

BootballJoy · 20/12/2024 16:37

I'd go for Eric, then Sebastian (I don't like Seb though), then George. George is very popular.

Personally I'd consider something like Raphael, Felix, Jasper, Patrick, Edmund, Christopher, Matthew. Something along those lines.

Firsttimebabymummy · 20/12/2024 20:40

Sebastian

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 20/12/2024 20:45

I like all three, in my order: Eric, Seb then George

(all Sebastians I know have been shortened to Seb)

With a similar vibe - Wilfred?

Mandarinaduck · 20/12/2024 20:53

I like all three of George, Eric, Sebastian.

What about Piers, Guy, Hugh, Marcus?
