William, Eric or Albert? Help me to choose

Has anyone been through a situation where you cannot decide on your baby boy name because you like three names all the same?
I live in the UK and would like a British name but with an international feel. I think these 3 names fit that, however I cannot decide on one. Which of these 3 would you choose? Eric? William? Albert? Why? Please don’t give me a 4th option as it would make my life even harder. :-) I appreciate your comments and insights! 😘

In order:
William - timeless classic
Eric - better as Erik
Albert - don't like at all

Mumofgirls2017 · 14/12/2024 21:44

Eric

Moreteaandchocolate · 14/12/2024 21:47

William and Albert are equally lovely to me. William is more of a timeless classic, and Albert is more of a vintage chic vibe and making a comeback. Both have good nn options - Will / Billy / Liam, Albie / Bertie. I’d probably go for William personally.

Eric has a bit of a comical feel to it (but I don’t know any one called Eric, so my association is from comedy to / cartoons).

Ditto.
William wins by far for me.

SkaneTos · 14/12/2024 22:28

They are all good names.
I like the name Eric the best.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 14/12/2024 22:30

William - Classic. More of a right wing name (royal links). That said Will and Billy are both good as shortenings and make the name seem less formal.
Albert - Classic, more of a left wing vibe. I like the nicknames Albie and Bertie but don’t like Al and there’s always a risk that would be what they ended up getting called.
Eric - Not keen at all, feels American. No good shortenings/ nicknames. Makes me think of Simon Cowell’s son.

TotallyTwisted · 14/12/2024 22:34

Not Eric, that's awful. The others are OK, it depends if you prefer Billy or Bertie as a nickname.

You live in the UK - what is your place of origin that may influence child's name? You don't have to give a British name if you are not British

redgingerbread · 14/12/2024 22:38

William, by a mile.

BertieBotts · 14/12/2024 22:50

Of the three I like Albert best though Alfred is better IMO.

Not keen on Eric at all. William is ok but not keen on the Willy shortening (though the Williams I've known have leant into this and owned it!)

Enough4me · 14/12/2024 22:52

William Albert
Go well together.

sunflowerblooms · 14/12/2024 22:54

William is a lovely name, I really like it. Others I don't like so I'd vote for William!

pinkroses79 · 14/12/2024 22:56

I prefer William.

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 14/12/2024 22:57

Eric I wanted this for my DS but husband preferred it as a middle name.

Omg is this a joke?
Eric is awful.
Willliam is awful and will get shortened to Willie (not good)
Albert is just mad and could be shortened to Bert or Bertie.. both effing awful.

Think this is possibly a joke post!

@GranPepper it doesn’t really matter. It is an opinion about a boy’s name who is British, not about whoever fitting in box A or B. I am more I interested in how these names sounds for people in general . Curious!

@Terrribletwos they're classic names!
I'm wondering what your comment says about your choices.

@Terrribletwos if you don’t have an opinion that is fine too!

@Terrribletwos i think all three names are lovely and I don’t see it as a joke unless one is drunk or on drugs.

Right. So just choose then. It doesn't really matter what some strangers think. Best wishes

Luminousalumnus · 14/12/2024 23:27

Eric is fabulous and very current. I personally don't like William and round here you can't move for little Albies so it seems overdone. So it's Eric for me.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 14/12/2024 23:28

William

Enough4me · 14/12/2024 23:31

@GranPepper saying - "just choose then" isn't in the spirit of the baby name section. Maybe you'd find AIBU where you can vote is easier.

@GranPepper right! It doesn’t really matter what strangers (aka: odd) drunk people think. I am interested in the opinions of polite, normal and decent people. Best of luck !

I don't like AIBU so no. I was just expressing my view but it's fine if you don't agree. I hope OP decides on a name they like and I'll leave it at that.
