Which do you prefer? Can't decide between the two.

I prefer Ruby. Emilia is a bit too frilly for me. I prefer the simplicity of Emma or Emily.

Sunflowerso · 12/12/2024 20:08

Ruby.

Emilia is a nice name still but you will constantly get Amelia so depends if that will annoy you.

Mummy2mybear · 12/12/2024 20:14

I cant decide i think they are both equally beautiful names, you could have Ruby-Emilia. Just beautiful Really pretty names i love them both I am also very picky but both names are just ❤❤❤

Moreteaandchocolate · 12/12/2024 21:01

I like both but would pick Ruby as I like a simple life, and would get fed up of correcting people who mishear Emilia as Amelia!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 12/12/2024 21:22

Emilia is classical, Shakespearean, elegant and more timeless feeling imo - the only issue with it is that it might get miss heard as very popular Amelia.

Ruby is pretty, but it’s quite trendy and it seems rare to meet one older than her 20’s (or very elderly) so it doesn’t feel as timeless to me.

Agree

FayCarew · 12/12/2024 21:26

Emilia, but be prepared for it to be misheard as Amelia.
Ruby-Emilia ruins both names.

sel2223 · 12/12/2024 21:33

Not a fan of Emilia, prefer Amelie

husbandcallsmepickle · 12/12/2024 21:42

First thought was Emilia, then I thought it may be dependant on sibling name(s) and surname

Nikitaspearlearring · 12/12/2024 21:46

Ruby. I know it's popular, but it's popular for a reason!

Stormyweatheroutthere · 12/12/2024 21:47

My dd is Ruby Amelia!!

AdaColeman · 12/12/2024 21:49

Ruby.

LizzieBet14 · 12/12/2024 21:49

Emilia - I wish I'd have chosen it. Beautiful name ❤️

boriam · 12/12/2024 21:52

Ruby

theduchessofspork · 12/12/2024 21:55

Emilia

They have both been overdone in the last few years (lots of YA Rubys, lots of primary and early secondary Emilias) but Emilia is much more of a classic so doesn't date so much,
.

BootballJoy · 12/12/2024 22:26

Emilia

user1492757084 · 13/12/2024 00:19

Neither is to my taste, sorry.
I prefer Emma, Emily, Amelie and Amelia.

Do you like Aurelia or Louisa?

Enough4me · 13/12/2024 00:21

Emilia, Millie for nn

Whiskeyandkittens · 13/12/2024 00:25

Ruby.

Emilia just sounds a bit... uppity to me, not sure why as I've never met one! Not keen on Amelia either (I think there may have been one that wasn't very nice in an Enid Blyton book and it's tainted it!) but Amelie is nice!

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 13/12/2024 05:50

Ruby.

I love Amelia (would choose over Ruby) but for some reason don’t like Emilia

Dontmind65 · 13/12/2024 09:30

Ruby,

Ruby is lovely😌

Atishooo · 13/12/2024 13:08

They’re both just a bit, overdone. And there’s endless Amelias and Millies.

Sunnyflow · 13/12/2024 16:49

I was also going to say that they're both overused and may start to sound dated soon.

I'd pick a less popular and more timeless name personally

Sunnyflow · 13/12/2024 16:52

I know it's popular, but it's popular for a reason!

Yes, the reason is that it's fashionable. Unfortunately that is also the downfall for such popular names - they WILL inevitably fall out of fashion and start to sound dated.

FayCarew · 13/12/2024 17:44

I agree. If you had not heard a name before, would you like it?
Many names are associated with somebody famous, or a fictional character, and that will colour your judgement.

If you asked me my thoughts on the top 10 names 25 yrs ago, my replies would be quite different to what I'd say today. (Apart from Ivy - it's Ivy Tilsley off Corrie to me and always will be)
The names seem so overused now.
