Isaac or Ethan?

I'm really struggling with choosing a boys name! So far, the ones that have stuck are Isaac and Ethan. This still may change, but of the two, which do you prefer?

Love them both - Isaac slightly edges it for me.

mrspresents · 08/12/2024 18:52

Ethan for me but slightly bias as it's ds24's middle name.

BoleynMemories13 · 08/12/2024 19:00

I really like both, but Isaac just edges it for me.

I use to hear Ethan a lot in the late 00s and early 2010s, but not so much now.

tinytemper66 · 08/12/2024 19:54

Isaac. Too many Ethans about.

TakeMyLifeAndLetItBe · 08/12/2024 19:59

Both are great names, you can't go wrong with either.

CookieMonster28 · 08/12/2024 20:04

Issac is far nicer. Ethan is wet

sel2223 · 09/12/2024 00:23

I voted Isaac

I think Ethan is a bit dated now, prefer Elijah, Evan and Elliott

252833z · 09/12/2024 21:39

I prefer Isaac.
Ethan is nice as well but a bit dated.

HippyKayYay · 09/12/2024 21:40

Isaac (but only because there was a horrible boy called Ethan in my DD's class in primary!)

RuthW · 09/12/2024 21:41

Ethan is a bit old fashioned

PurpleChrayn · 09/12/2024 21:43

Isaac.

Sweet on a child, cool on a teen, wise on a man.

I'm biased as I have one (although we call him Yitzhak day-to-day as DH is a Hebrew speaker).

Beautifulsunflowers · 09/12/2024 23:05

Oh definitely Isaac! I'm biased though Smile
As pp said, so cute on a young child, cool on a teen and sophisticated on a grown man. What's not to love? Plus it means laughter!

HappyMe6 · 09/12/2024 23:27

Love both

SkaneTos · 10/12/2024 09:25

Both are lovely names!

I voted for Isaac.

theduchessofspork · 10/12/2024 23:59

Issac

I don't mind Ethan but it's a bit 90s

CatStoleMyChocolate · 11/12/2024 00:23

I like both (and am biased on both accounts 😊) but prefer Isaac. We hardly ever meet others, even though it was 20-something in the name charts in the year of his birth. Never met a little Ethan either.

However, be warned that the number of people who cannot spell Isaac is higher than you would expect, with Issac being the most common variant (though believe me, I have seen them all). We have often had to ask for school spellings on stuff to be amended. So if this would really bother you, bear that in mind.

mathanxiety · 11/12/2024 00:40

Isaac.

Sorry to anyone who loves Ethan, but I always think it sounds like a cold draught coming in under a door.

Possumcat · 11/12/2024 00:43

I have an Izaak - this is the Russian spelling… thought he might be a Zak for short but he never has been… still love his name though!
