Hello! We have DC number 2 arriving in April. Our DD is called Nora. What are your thoughts on these names? We are from the UK, Near Brighton ☺️

Emmeline - will it be confused with Emily?
Margot - Too popular?
Elize

Arnold NN Arnie
Henry - used to love it but I've gone off it recently and I'm not sure why!

Any other suggestions are welcome! 🤩

Like emmeline but agree will be confused w Emily. Margot goes well with Nora. Eliza is nice. Arnold is nice with Nora and actually quite like it. Henry I love.

Moreteaandchocolate · 02/12/2024 12:26

Margot or Eliza are lovely with Nora. I like Emmeline too, if you don’t mind people mishearing as Emily, and Emmy is a nice nn.

Boys - I think Arnie / Arnold could make a comeback, but hasn’t yet so it still sounds very old man to me. Arthur, Alfred, Albert (Artie, Alfie / Freddie, Albie / Bertie) are safer options, if you prefer? Henry is great if you don’t mind its popularity.

DuchessOfSausage · 02/12/2024 12:29

Emmeline - will it be confused with Emily? Yes.
Margot - Too popular? Probably, but it goes with Nora
Elize - looks like a bad spelling of Elise

Arnold and Henry both good. Arnie is less common.

Emmeline - it's ok.
Margot - Awful.
Elize - ok. What about Eloise or Elena? Or Louise?

Arnold - no
Henry - ok

What about Elliot or Felix?

ginasevern · 02/12/2024 12:58

I like Emmeline and Elize.
Don't particularly like Henry and hate Arnold but then I'm not into these grandad names.

sel2223 · 02/12/2024 17:11

Margot and Emmeline are lovely. What about Ivy, Emma, Violet, Lois?

I'm not keen on either of your boys names I'm afraid. What about Elliott, William or Edward?

SkaneTos · 02/12/2024 22:10

Nora is such a pretty name!

All the names on your list are good names.
Many good ideas from previous posters too.

mommyandmore · 03/12/2024 06:24

Thanks everyone for your replies! Some great suggestions! I know Arnold is a bit marmite 😂 and I don't know if I'm brave enough to use it tbh.

DH mentioned Camille last night NN Cami which I also quite like. I do love French names as they are so pretty and elegant in my eyes.

Thanks all for your honestly and suggestions so far! X

I had a friend growing up called Emmeline. Never recall any confusion with Emily, even when we were tiniest. Just down the road in Kent.

With the greatest of respect, no to Arnold. Edwin, Frederick, Thomas?

Firsttimebabymummy · 03/12/2024 11:12

Love Emmeline, also like Margot.

Love Arnold and Like Henry

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/12/2024 19:19

Personally I love elegant Emmeline best (no I don’t think it’ll get confused for Emily by 90% of people as Pankhurst is pretty well known), and quite like pretty Elise too (with this more well known spelling) and Camille is nice enough.

But although they aren’t exactly my style, I do think Margot and Nora go brilliantly together as a sibset - kind of trendy, retro hipster cool (20’s New York jazz club sort of names).

But while all your girls names are fine, please don’t go with Arnold 🤣 It’s too associated with the actor in the UK (and since it’s a classic film I can imagine he’ll still have “I’ll be back” said often enough once he’s old enough to watch /understand). Weirdly though personally I also find it has a geeky sound too (a bit like Eugene).

Classic Henry is lovely though, or maybe consider continuing to go the retro hipster/cool route with a name like Raymond (Ray), Wilfred (Wilf), August (Augie) ?

theduchessofspork · 05/12/2024 00:01

I like Arnold nn Arnie - it must be about to come back and goes well with Nora

I like Emmeline too and don't think it would be mistaken for Emily, any more than the other way round - it's fairly well used

Henry is nice but way overdone, Margot quite overdone, and Elize a bit odd
