Particularly interested in your thoughts on boys as we are expecting DS1 in December.

I think “Soft” boys names will carry on rising, like -

Leo
Jonah
Luca / Lucas
Finley
Ezra
Rory
Rowan
Arlo

BoleynMemories13 · 23/11/2024 15:51

I agree with the above.

The following current trends will still feature heavily in the top 100:-

  • ie/y short forms as given names
  • old testament Biblical names
  • old lady/man chic
  • nature names
  • surnames as first names

For boys, I predict the following to rise significantly within the top 100:-

Teddy
Jude
Reuben
Albie
Ezra
Rory
Frankie
Rowan
Hudson
Otis

Big risers for girl, within the top 100:-

Elsie
Matilda
Penelope
Hallie
Maeve
Violet
Mila
Margot
Mabel
Aria
Ada
Elodie
Eloise
Ottilie

(Basically most names which have been on the rise for a good few years anyway, but will continue to rise at speed because, due to the delay in releasing the data each year currently, so many parents have no idea how popular they have suddenly become when they pick them).

Noah and Olivia will probably still be the top picks.

Top 10 predictions:-

Noah
Muhammad
Arthur
Oliver
George
Leo
Theo
Freddie
Oscar
Luca

Olivia
Isla
Ivy
Ava
Lily
Amelia
Poppy
Isabella
Freya
Elsie

Wren also on the up, currently 150, I think it might make 100

Wren also on the up, currently 150, I think it might make 100

If not this year, I think it definitely will be in 2024. A move of 50+ places in one year is unusual, but not unheard of (especially now they delay the results so much, as many places only publish the top 100 so lots of people are completely unaware how close to the top 100 some names actually are and pick them thinking they're being 'unique'). Examples in recent years have been Margot, Maeve, Lyra, Ottilie, Elodie, Ophelia, all rocketed out of nowhere. So Wren is quite a hood shout.

It's hard to predict 2023 when we're nearly through 2024 now. What is super popular right now might not have been such a big trend in the first half of 2023, over 18 months ago now. It's hard to remember isn't it?!

Looking at the current top 150, my predictions to have broken into the top 100 in 2023 are:-

Autumn
Hazel
Pippa

(Outside bets Cora and Wren, maybe 2024 for those)

Miles (Myles spelling is already in)
Eli
Marley

(Outside bets Vinnie and Jonah)
