Surname with Cas in it?

casquestion · 14/11/2024 14:46

I am desperate for a surname with Cas or Cass in the middle or the end of it, (not at the start, such as Cassidy).

This board helped me name my babies many moons ago, but this surname is for a character in my new novel - a plot point hinges on it.

I have spent fruitless hours thinking and searching, and come up with Lucas and Macaskill. Surely there are more?!

Thanks very much in advance for any ideas!

Salcas

How about double barreled like Smith-Cassidy or similar?

Oh these are brilliant, thank you! Lancaster would I think be amazing for my purposes... and between that and Doncaster, Newcastle and Lancashire I obviously need to look at some more place names to find more ideas!

At the moment the character is double-barrelled, so that's the fall back option.

Maracas made me laugh!

My friend's surname is Mancas. It's Romanian.

I have asked trusty ChatGPT for its help for you! 😂 this is what it has recommended (along with it’s unnecessary explanations for each!):

  1. Macaslan – A Scottish-sounding surname with a soft “Cas” in the center.
  2. Delcasaro – Italian- or Spanish-inspired, evoking nobility or romance.
  3. Alcastein – A blend of Germanic and fantasy elements.
  4. Vercastel – Sounds French and noble, like a place-based name (“castle”).
  5. Lucascroft – A hybrid English surname, with “Lucas” and “croft” (small farm/holding).
  6. Marcasson – Has a strong, slightly French or Scandinavian feel.
  7. Nicastro – An actual Italian surname that naturally includes “Cas”.
  8. Bencastro – Could be of Spanish or Portuguese origin, and “Cas” fits smoothly.
  9. Maccaslin – Derived from Scottish/Irish roots, with a unique sound.
  10. Rocastle – English-sounding, evocative of strength and nobility.
