Sister for Juliet

Looking for reader feedback on my shortlist of girls names for DD2 due March. Sister to Juliet. Wary of anything too frilly that might seem OTT alongside Juliet

Current thinking: Emma, Sophie, Bridget, Phoebe, Celia, Madeleine

Love Phoebe. Eleanor?

Helena?

My first thought was Harriet.

Then Erica, Phoebe and Freya.

Snorlaxo · 11/11/2024 02:53

I’m not a big fan of Celia and would avoid Bridget because of the “dge” sound being the same as the first letter of Juliet.
Phoebe would be my choice from your list because Juliet is a different type of name from Emma and Sophie. Madeline is one of those names with multiple pronunciations (line or lin at the end ) which would personally grate on me.

Clara?

Not Bridget (or Harriet) with Juliet. Don’t make matching name sounds a thing (what if you had a 3rd girl) plus Juliet is delicate and Bridget is a big lump of a name - hopefully you aren’t somewhere it would be shortened to bridie or biddy or breege 😏

I think Sophie, Phoebe and possibly Emma are the best options with Juliet.

Phoebe and Madeleine are particularly nice from your list. Emma and Sophie are gorgeous classics, but more commonly used than Juliet (if you look across all age groups) so seem a bit ordinary next to the lovely Juliet.

Bridget and Celia have the same classic but not commonly used vibe as Juliet but I don’t like them as much - the Bridget’s and Celia’s I know are called “Bridge” and “Seals” a lot of the time.

How about

Helena

Eleanor was my first thought too!
Love Sophie but agree with a pp it seems a different type of name to Juliet. Madeleine is lovely and goes much better.

BootballJoy · 11/11/2024 21:59

Phoebe and Madeleine are lovely. Quite like Celia and Sophie as well. Bridget is good too (perhaps a bit matchy with Juliet?), and although Emma's my least favourite it's still a decent name. Really good name-list!

(Also like PP's suggestions of Rosalind, Philippa and Francesca.)

Vanessa, Catherine, Rachel, Emily

maybein2022 · 11/11/2024 22:32

All nice, I wouldn’t do Bridget with Juliet though.

My first thought was Felicity.

I like Phoebe the best of your list. Then Madeleine and third Emma. All wonderful, timeless names.

Esme and Juliet !

Name changed because it’s obviously incredibly outing, but I have a Juliet with little sister Celia (Cecilia). So it’s reassuring how many people like it!
