Agh, trying to narrow this down and failing. Got one older DS called Rory.

Kit
Colm
Cormac
Laurie
Mallory
Corin

I'm leaning towards Kit but don't like any of the longer names usually used and I can't decide if Kit is ok to use on it's own or whether it needs a longer name on the BC.

I love the name Rory! Kit is my favourite of your name ideas. I would personally pick a longer bc name to give options when he’s older - how about Beckett nn Kit?

spiritgoat · 08/11/2024 21:01

Colm and Cormac are great names. The others are nice but those two are the best on the list imo.

Yerto · 08/11/2024 21:09

Kit or Colm for me.

Nicebloomers · 08/11/2024 22:02

Cormac for me, although I like all of your list except maybe Mallory.

SkaneTos · 08/11/2024 22:03

Rory is a great name.

These are my favourites from your list of names
Rory and Kit
Rory and Cormac

I have never heard the name Colm before.

To me Mallory is a female name (and it makes me think of Mallory Pike [a girl] in the Baby-sitters Club book series). But now when I google it, I read that Mallory can be a male name too, so now I've learned somthing new.

OopsieeDaisy · 08/11/2024 22:06

I would also think Mallory was a female name and I’m not too keen on it for a boy. From your list, Laurie is my favourite and Kit is ok.

Scutterbug · 08/11/2024 22:08

Kit for sure.

Nikitaspearlearring · 08/11/2024 22:09

I really like Kit. It's usually a nn for Christopher but I think it's fine as a stand-alone name. I'm not keen on your other names.

vegaspot · 08/11/2024 22:11

Laurie is absolutely lovely.

Questionary · 08/11/2024 22:13

I love Laurie but not the matching er ending with Rory

Also love the name Kit so would go with this and just use Kit and not Christopher on the birth certificate

Tinytigertail · 08/11/2024 22:13

I love your list! I have a family member called Kit, it's his full name and I've always thought it worked well as a stand alone.

Firsttimebabymummy · 08/11/2024 23:09

Kit pairs perfectly with Rory imo. I normally prefer longer names with shorter nn but i like Kit as it is.

Abbaa · 08/11/2024 23:22

Another vote for Kit!

HoHoHoliday · 08/11/2024 23:23

Corin is my absolute favourite boy's name!
Rory and Corin - perfect.

Mumofgirls2017 · 09/11/2024 00:01

agree like kit best, but like Christopher or Atticus as longer names.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/11/2024 00:32

Something like Corin Thomas or Corin Tobias (love a Shakespearean name and have never been sure why Corin is so underused, maybe because girls Corinne is more popular?) - and then you could use Kit as a nickname? I really like Kit, but as a given name its newly trendy and so a risk imo, plus it does sound like a cute nickname - it’s the word for a baby fox after all!

Cormac especially with nn Mac sounds very cool (particularly if any Irish links). And literary Laurie very nice (although without Laurence on the BC, I wonder if it would get mistaken for girls Lori or not?)

Colm is less my cup of tea and I always thought Mallory had completely gone to the girls? (though I’m not keen anyway).

user1492757084 · 09/11/2024 05:25

Rory and ..

Colin
Cormac
Christopher - Kit

Normallynumb · 09/11/2024 05:27

Rory and Corin

FayCarew · 09/11/2024 08:22

Kit. It doesn't need a long version.

mrswhippy99 · 09/11/2024 10:16

I hadn’t thought of Corin as a longer version of Kit. Might work! DH thinks Corin is pretentious, but he doesn’t want Kit as a stand-alone name and I’ve vetoed Christopher so I’ll work on him! I wanted Kit for a girl and he veoted it because he doesn’t like Kitty so he might have to compromise here - after all the baby, me and older DS all have his surname…

FayCarew · 09/11/2024 10:34

Kit from Corin is a bit like calling a David Dan or a Theodore Tom.

Abbaa · 09/11/2024 11:39

Christian as a full name for Kit?

BoleynMemories13 · 09/11/2024 12:17

Kit is the only one I like. These days, it passes perfectly as a stand alone name.

Kit as a short form of Corin make zero sense whatsoever. You may as well just call him Kit.

Rory and Kit is a lovely sibset.

sel2223 · 09/11/2024 14:51

While maybe not my personal taste, I think Rory and Kit go lovely together.

I wouldn't choose Mallory: 1) it rhymes with Rory and 2) it makes me think of 'Duckie' in NCIS (Dr Mallory)

Corin sounds very feminine, like Corinne

Laurie too much like Rory when you say them out loud

Colm and Cormac just sound like completely made up words so they would be a definite no from me

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/11/2024 17:01

While it’s obviously traditionally used for Christopher or Christian, imo Kit is fine as a shortening of CorIn Thomas (K/CIT, the letters are in there), or just as a general nickname in the vein of Buddy, Sonny etc. Nicknames don’t always have to make sense- I’ve heard Kit used as a nickname for girls names Claudia and Tabitha too, I guess because they remind people of cats.
