Sister for Anaya

Whattochoose1 · 04/11/2024 21:18

We have a little girl called Anaya and a little boy called Zayn. We're looking for an Arabic name for our little girl due next year.
Currently we like:
Inara (family think is too similar to Anaya)
Seren (my daughter keeps pointing out it rhymes with herron which is putting me off 🤣)

Any other suggestions for me very welcomed!

Seren is beautiful (but now I also hear Heron and I don't think you'll move past that now you've thought it!)

I love the name Farah!

Moreteaandchocolate · 04/11/2024 21:29

Inara is lovely but I also think it’s a bit too similar to Anaya.

Seren is gorgeous - this would be my pick.

Or do you like

Leila
Nora
Mariam
Zara

I do think Inara is a bit similar, although it's lovely and I wouldn't be put off using it if I really wanted it. Inaya or Amaya would be going too far with Anaya but I think you could just about get away with Inara.

I thought Seren was a Welsh name, actually and I've never linked it to Heron. It's really pretty. There's also Serena which is similar but (I'm pretty sure) has no Arabic link so wouldn't fit with your other children or your preferences.

Zarah and Aaliyah are my favourite Arabic names that I've come across but I probably don't know many.
I like Parisa and Jessamy but I think they're Persian rather than Arabic and am not sure if names cross between those languages or not.

Chersfrozenface · 05/11/2024 10:04

Seren the (very recent) Welsh name is pronounced ser - en, with both e's pronounced the same, not ser - un, so doesn't sound like 'heron'. It's originally a Welsh noun meaning star.

I've no idea about Seren as an Arabic name

)I do know that Idris is a male name in both Welsh and Arabic, but with totally different etymology and meaning.)

WrongSortOfPoster · 05/11/2024 13:25

Is Seren an Arabic name? It doesn't look it (no E in Arabic). I think it sounds like Sarin.
I like Nour.

Whattochoose1 · 05/11/2024 22:31

Thank you so much for your replies! Really appreciate it.
It's "Serin" in Arabic yes but with my accent it still sounds very much like the Welsh way of saying it 🙈

The pp said that the Welsh version has both Es sound the same (like in Ben), which they wouldn't in Serin.
Is the name Turkish not Arabic?

The Turkish name is Ceren, pronounced with a 'J" sound.

I have heard of Seren as an Arabic/ Islamic name although exact pronunciation can vary in different accents. I believe it means similar to serenity/ tranquility

WrongSortOfPoster · 06/11/2024 07:32

Probably taken from the Latin-origin name Serena, @sel2223 . It doesn't resemble Arabic words with those meanings.

Maybe, but I have heard it used in Arabic families.

JusttInCase · 06/11/2024 09:27

I do think Inara sounds very close to Anaya.

There's an Isra at my daughter's nursery - I think it's a lovely name.
There's also a Harir and a Tasnim.

sprigatito · 06/11/2024 09:28

🤣 I should have worded that better.
He's currently putting up a curtain pole so the love-o-meter is rising 😜

If he did it without you needing to remind him then he's up there on my love-o-meter too.Smile

You don't have a DS @Whattochoose1 ? My neighbour has a DD called Anaya. If you do, he has a very loud voice
