James

Abi

funnypeculiar · 25/04/2008 19:12

Like both Sam & James - why not wait to see which one he looks like?
Abi or Abby for shortening spellings, please

MargaretMountford · 25/04/2008 19:13

Sam and Abi (I say that as it seems logical to take first three letters) I prefer the full name though !

tortoiseSHELL · 25/04/2008 19:13

Sam over James. Abi.

both james and sam are lovely, wait until he arrives to choose

Abby please!

WigWamBam · 25/04/2008 19:14

Doesn't matter how you decide to shorten Abigail, she will decide for herself by the time she's 5 (I have one!). We have always shortened it to Abi as that's the logical shortening, but dd has gone through about 13 different permutations.

Sam and James are both very, very popular - there are at least three of each in every class at dd's school, from Nursery up to Y2 - so personally I wouldn't choose either. As you don't want to shorten from Sam, though, I'd say James - gives him the option of keeping the more formal version when he's older.

oh, and congratulations and good luck

NorthernLurker · 25/04/2008 19:16

Sam and Abby

or you could go for a compromise and have james known as Jem?

gegs73 · 25/04/2008 19:18

I like Sam best. My neice is called Abigail 14yo. Her friends mostly don't shorten her name though if they do it is Abby.

gegs73 · 25/04/2008 19:19

niece even

JolieGirl · 25/04/2008 19:20

what is your surname? crucial in choosing a name imo

They're both nice and both quite similar types of name really.
