Is baby name Daniel old fashioned or is it still common. Looking for a classic but still modern cute boy name 🙏

I think Daniel is a great name, a classic name.

I don't know if Daniel is an old fashioned name, I am not originally from an English-speaking country. Hopefully someone who is can answer what they think.

Don't like it personally it's quite a 40 year old man's name now

A few on my list for our boy were
Roman
Rowan
Frankie
Chester
Walter
Albert

daniel is a bit dated but still generally nice!

samuel
benjamin
joel
harry
lewis
zachary
danny

BootballJoy · 01/11/2024 23:44

Not that common but I've met one little Daniel. Perfectly fine.
Popular classics I've come across a lot:

George
James
Alexander
Louis
Thomas
Oliver
Henry
Oscar
Edward
William
Noah
Jacob (+ many old testament names like Reuben, Isaac, Josiah, Ezra etc.)
Frederick
Albert
Alfred
Sebastian
Arthur
Benjamin
Eric

Also met (but not many, maybe only one) little ones called:
Joseph
Matthew
Martin
Christopher
Samuel
Raphael
Michael
Edmund
Nathaniel
Alistair

I think a lot of the old classics would sound fine-
Anthony, David, Charles, John,.Jonathan, Robert, Richard etc.

I love it and think it's due a revival

unmemorableusername · 02/11/2024 00:40

Dan/danny- bit used car salesman.

It's not old enough to be retro.

Too 1970s

SnowFrogJelly · 02/11/2024 01:02

Love Daniel!

Fireworknight · 02/11/2024 03:39

It’s one if those names that is due a revival. I think if you name him Daniel, people will think, ‘oh, I haven’t heard many of those recently , but it’s a good classic name. Go for it.

Firsttimebabymummy · 02/11/2024 07:05

Love Daniel!

Moreteaandchocolate · 02/11/2024 08:33

I love it!

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 02/11/2024 10:20

Bemused by the idea that an Old Testament name is 'too 1970s' ConfusedGrin

It's a classic name to me, not dated at all. If you like it, you might also like names like Nathan, Samuel, Jacob, Joshua.

WildCherryBlossom · 02/11/2024 10:23

It's really not dated. Very much in use. At least one in each year group at our primary. Other angel names like Michael not in such common use (and maybe due a comeback?)

Himawarigirl · 02/11/2024 10:25

There aren’t loads of Daniel’s around us but I know an 11 year old one, a 5 year old one and a brand new baby one, so it does get used and is a nice name.

AgainandagainandagainSS · 02/11/2024 10:28

Fabulous name.
It’s on my boy list.

MerryMarys · 02/11/2024 17:02

I find Dan/Danny overused and dated personally.

RuthW · 03/11/2024 16:40

It's a classic and a nice name.

permanently · 03/11/2024 17:08

It's a winner

A1m52 · 03/11/2024 17:50

I like that I loved the name Danny or Dan aswel. Just a nice name x

sel2223 · 03/11/2024 18:05

I think it's a good, solid name.
Not trendy or faddy but also not dated either. It's a classic that works as well on a small child as it does on an adult

MontevideoTrip · 03/11/2024 18:58

Love it! And Danny as a nickname

BoleynMemories13 · 03/11/2024 20:16

Daniel is quite classic. It might not be the top 10 name it was throughout the 80s, 90s and 00s, but it has consistently remained in and around the top 50 so is definitely still in use today. I've taught a few over the last 15 years I have been teaching for, spread out evenly across the years.

Names of a similar style which are all very classic but not overly popular these days:-

Matthew
Adam
Luke
Joseph
Samuel
Benjamin
Michael
Robert
Peter
David

Traditional classics which are more commonly used still in 2024 but are not 'trendy' popular:-

James
Thomas
Alexander
William
Edward
Henry
George

theduchessofspork · 03/11/2024 20:26

It’s classic and not overdone at the moment, good choice
