DH’s family are Welsh, mine are Scottish (although I was brought up in SE England). Our son is Elis (Welsh) and so I’m looking at Scottish names for baby boy number 2. Please share with me your favourites ☺️

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Aye, Henry will be absolutely fine in Scotland as would any other name! We're quite diverse.

It’s more I am aware it’s more English…which isn’t always okay in Scotland 😂🤦‍♀️

Stardogchampion · 11/07/2026 17:32

Struan :)

TheyGrewUp · 11/07/2026 17:38

I haven't seen Barclay mentioned.

Angus
Fergus
Hamish

This is my list to, to which I would add Alexander.

So Alexander, Angus, Fergus and Hamish.

Hamish is underused atm. It is lovely.

hussherbye · 11/07/2026 18:17

Elis and Hector

MyCatIsAnAeroplane · 11/07/2026 19:29

I hear Finlay and Finley as two different pronunciations.

If you want to avoid “obvious” Gaelic names / dh etc then I’d agree with other posters and say Struan, Hamish, and Angus are all strong contenders and suit both little boys and grown men without being “of an era”.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 11/07/2026 19:36

Hamish

Cairneyes · 11/07/2026 19:37

I have a Jamie and a Robert.

I know! Wonder why the name Henry doesn’t seem to exist much in Scotland…

Really? I'd pronounce them the same.

Lachlan and Cameron are great.
I love Rory but only the English spelling.
I think Ruairi is the Irish Gaelic spelling @DaisyEM
