We love the name Florence but wondering if it's really popular? I do know a couple of babies/toddlers with the name but no children/adults.
We like Florence Emilia.
Our son is Henry so thought Florence fits well.

I think Florence Emilia is really lovely. I've only met 1 child called Florence and she's a teenager. I do not know any adults called Florence so I don't think it is too popular. Henry and Florence seems quite good too.

Henry and Florence are a lovely pairing! Both extremely popular around here, but doesn't make them any less lovely! The youngest one I know is not quite 1 and the oldest is my neighbour who is in her late 50's. Have a few friends in their 30's, someone at uni, a teen and then a bunch under the age of 7...so the full range!

Atishooo · 01/11/2024 20:35

Yes very! I know several. Mix of ages too.

StarDolphins · 01/11/2024 20:36

I love Florence. There’s lots of them in our local nurseries & schools though.

Elisabeth3468 · 01/11/2024 20:37

Any other suggestions with a similar vibe?
We do like Alice but just not as much.

Henry is quite popular here , although I only know one other at the groups we go to and none in his nursery. But I've heard other Henry's in the park a few times locally. I love his name though and it doesn't bother me that it's quite popular. So thinking we should maybe just stick with Florence.

Very popular, but so is Henry so it fits your son's name. In fact I know a sibling set of Henry and Florence!

Fwiw I know about 6 Henrys and 7 Florence's within our small, affluent town/village in the SE (we're in the primary school years).

sparklychair · 01/11/2024 20:39

I had lots of relatives called Florence. All born between 1900 and 1920.
Usually shortened to Flo or Florrie.

Needmorelego · 01/11/2024 20:42

I know 2.
One aged 16 and one aged 13 ish.
Plus however old Dave Cameron's girl is now.
I think it's a beautiful name.
Go for it.

Firsttimebabymummy · 01/11/2024 20:43

Florence Emilia is beautiful.
I only know of one, she'll be just over a year old.

I know an Amelia Florence recently born.

Moreteaandchocolate · 01/11/2024 21:04

Florence is lovely and goes so well with Henry. From the link @FayCarew posted, only about 1 in 300 girls are called Florence, even though it’s in the top 10, so she’d be unlucky to be in the same class as another one 😊

GiraffeTree · 01/11/2024 21:07

I only know one Florence, I wouldn't say it's too popular OP.

CarolNewYear · 01/11/2024 21:09

My daughter is called Florence. She is 5. She is the only Florence in her school (about 100 children)). I'm biased but I obviously love the name. She is Florence Orla x

Christwosheds · 01/11/2024 21:11

I only know one, she is 16. It’s a beautiful name.

YorkshireIndie · 01/11/2024 21:14

You could give her the nickname Flossy!

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 01/11/2024 21:18

I think Florence is lovely and goes well with Henry in a "same sort of vibe" way, without being weirdly matchy. I don't know many babies at all these days, but I haven't heard of one called Florence in a while.

Laughingmole · 01/11/2024 21:21

I work in a primary school with 600 children. There’s a Florence in my class but she is the only one in the school.

SemperIdem · 01/11/2024 21:31

It’s a lovely name, currently no.8 in the UK so it is very popular, yes. Henry is 13th for boys.

Gymmum82 · 01/11/2024 21:43

Really popular. 3 in my daughters class alone and probably another 5 in the school (single intake primary)

Monsterstep · 02/11/2024 01:09

Florence is lovely, I only know 1 who is in reception class.

Along the same lines is Beatrice

Jijk · 02/11/2024 01:34

Genuinely of those I went to university with who've had daughters every other one has been a Florence.

DrizzleMySwizzle · 02/11/2024 01:37

I know a few little Florences so knew it was trendy but didn't realise it was the 8th most popular girls' name.

NeverHadHaveHas · 02/11/2024 01:46

I know of a Florence Penelope which I love.

favledesire · 02/11/2024 01:46
