I'm not due till 5th Oct but am trying to decide on a girls name (although it could be a boy!)
Am deciding between Matilda, Alice and Lucy. Surname is Newby and other dd's names are CHarlotte and Molly.

Please can you say which you prefer (sounds best in your opinion) or if you really dislike one, why?

I know it's my decision, but just interested in how she would be viewed by other people by her name.

I think Alice sounds best with other names, but all pretty names tbh.

pooka · 25/04/2008 14:43

Well I like Lucy (is dd's name). But with your surname, I think Alice goes wonderfully. Matilda Newby doesn't scan as well, and Lucy Newby is a bit "y y" at the end.

branflake81 · 25/04/2008 14:46

I hate the name Matilda. Lucy and Alice are ok.

Matilda shortened to Mattie- great name great future character

Alice and Lucy - quite girly - but I never met on I didn't like!

thanks everyone. I think Alice Newby goes well. I do like Matida but after dd2 hid from me in M&S on Sat and I had to walk around shouting her name, I did start to think how I would feel shouting Matilda and am not sure I am confident enough to use it.

I worry dh will go off Alice. Last time he said he liked it and I got excited and then two weeks later changed his mind and I ended up with a Molly!

I would like a middle name but am at a complete loss about that.

Maybe could have Alice Matilda, Alice Sophia, Alice Belle, Alice Elizabeth or Alice Aurelia. Any thoughts?

All lovely names but I like Alice best (dd's middle name). And I like Alice Belle best from your suggested middle names.

Aero · 25/04/2008 18:56

I like Alice Elizabeth. It flows nicely especially with your surname.

lilolilmanchester · 25/04/2008 18:59

I agree that Alice sounds best with your surname and your other DDs' names. If you really like Matilda, what about Alice Matilda?

moominsmummy · 25/04/2008 19:07

Alice

2point4kids · 25/04/2008 19:10

I love the name Matilda... but Alice goes best with your other girls names and your surname

TheFallenMadonna · 25/04/2008 19:10

Alice Elizabeth

tortoiseSHELL · 25/04/2008 19:13

Definitely Alice. I really wanted to call one of mine 'Alice Christina' but we had a boy, and anyway our surname begins with A, so would have been a bit alliterative.

artichokes · 25/04/2008 19:42

I love Matilda (and Tilly, Mattie, Tilda etc)
I also really like Alice, but I am not keen on Ali
Lucy I find pretty dull.

tummytickler · 25/04/2008 20:09

I think Alice Matilda sounds beautiful and lovely with your other dd's.
Lucy is also nice, but i prefer Lucinda

Wheelybug · 25/04/2008 20:15

Alice Matilda

beckystaffs · 25/04/2008 20:21

I love Matilda, my two dd's are both m's so if I have another it's definatley on the short list. Though would have to agree with the other posters alice goes best with your surname. Also would you want only 1 C and 2 M's- if you get what i mean?

LaDiDaDi · 25/04/2008 20:27

I would go for Alice Matilda or Alice Elizabeth.

guineamango · 25/04/2008 20:29

Alice Elizabeth

pollyblue · 26/04/2008 12:47

Alice def. best with your surname IMO, and i like Alice Belle from your list. I think it sunds better with a single syllable middle name, how about
Alice Faye
Alice May
Alice Rose

ruddynorah · 26/04/2008 12:52

i have a matilda and if next baby is dd2 she will be alice. nothing wrong with shouting matilda. it is unusual where i live, gather it's common in other areas, was something like no. 65 in top name list the year she was born. no problems shouting it in the park or shops or whatever.

i also love molly, but don't want two children with same initial.

NorthernLurker · 26/04/2008 12:53

Alice goes best with the other names

CilC · 30/04/2008 15:59

I love Matilda, followed by Alice... If DS due in July was a girl both those names were on the list but Matilda was both our favourites. I also love Tilly and Mattie - 2 ways of shortening the name.

CilC · 30/04/2008 16:01

Sorry forgot to add how about Matilda Alice or Alice Matilda, both go well with your surname. Like Lucy also but a bit of a mouthful with Newby.
