In need of middle name suggestions.

Hey, mums, I’m expecting my first child and the responsibility of naming her is stressing me out. For someone that had birth certificates to every single one of her stuffed animals and dolls as a little girl, I knew it was going to be hard but not this much.

The name I decided to go with is Ayla, though I have to be honest there’s still about a 10% chance I could just not use it in the end if I decide she looks like another name when she arrives haha. Other names I thought of and decided to not use were: Aliya, Willow/Willa, Dorothea, Elowen, Autumn, Elise, Louisa, Harriet, Juniper, Estelle, Clover, Rosalie, Meadow, Ruby, Winter, Lavinia, Lilou, Lilla, Delilah and Heidi. I think that might give ou some ideas of what I usually like.

I would love the support of the mumsnet community on this. I’m doing this whole motherhood thing on my own and if at least the choice of names can be shared with someone, that would already make me a little more relaxed.

Thank you.

Are there any family names you might use? Or otherwise, why not pick one of the other names from your list - Ayla Harriet or Ayla Rosalie would be lovely 😊

Is there a family member you would like to honour with the middle name?

I love Ayla by the way, the one I know is called Ayla Jean (AJ)

yikesanotherbooboo · 28/10/2024 09:00

I would look for a family name . She is not likely to use it on a daily basis so fashion isn't important although we are all swayed a bit by this

MrsMoastyToasty · 28/10/2024 09:04

You don't have to have a middle name. I haven't got one.
However if you decide you must have one then I always think go traditional if the first name is more unusual. So Ayla Anne or Ayla Jayne for example.

miniaturepixieonacid · 28/10/2024 13:04

I'd choose one of the names you shortlisted but haven't chosen for the first name - assuming you love them all.

I really like:
Ayla Juniper
Ayla Elowen
Alyla Rosalie
Ayla Dorothea

Or, other ideas:
Ayla Elise
Ayla Charlotte
Ayla Giselle
Ayla Miranda
Ayla Tatiana
Ayla Beatrice
Ayla Victoria

user1492757084 · 31/10/2024 14:20

Ayla Elowen
Ayla Natalie
Ayla Rosemary
Ayla Christobel

Anonycat · 31/10/2024 14:28

Ayla Rose
Ayla Victoria

With Ayla, I would go for either a single-syllable or long middle name.

SomeSuperhero · 03/11/2024 01:57

Ayla Jean

There are some lovely options on your list. You are right that giving someone a name is a big decision which isn't to be taken lightly. There is no rush. Meet her, try the names out - the choice may become more obvious. If you're in the UK you have a few weeks to register her after the birth so you can let it marinade a bit before committing it to official documents.
