Hendrix is terrible.

What about Axl for a boy?

Hendrix is terrible.

What about Axl for a boy?

I have removed Hendrix, I have replaced it with Edmund. Axl is a really nice name, thank you for that. Added to the list! ☺️ x

Wow… Emmeline seems to be fairly universally liked. Which is unusual on mumsnet.

It’s not a name I’ve ever come across in my social circles. Obviously Emmeline Pankhurst springs to mind. So don’t think it’s very common at all.

Aramis was quite expensive Last time I looked! Nice smell. My dad uses it, it was thought of as quite classy when it came out.

Aww sorry! I think my uncle did too. he did like a bargain though TBF, I just remember how strong it was! Perhaps he just applied it liberally!

Love Emmeline but really dislike the others sorry.

Imo use the more phonetic Eily spelling instead of Islie if you are set on it (I understand Isla is popular and the pronunciation known but Islie is not).

Beautiful Scandi Linnea (“Lih - nay- ah”) instead of Neveah might be an option.

Safia is pretty but strongly Arabic if that matters and there’s a lot of different spellings- unless you are set on it, similar sounding Saskia might be easier.

Emmeline is fine and a cool namesake.

Hendrick will get likely get mistaken for famous Hendrix and is not my taste personally. The ancient similar ending names Alaric or Wolfric are pretty cool though imo, if you are brave with boys names.

Emmeline nice
others awful sorry

Thank you for your opinion, I have removed all the others. My favourites at the moment are - Emmeline, Nyah & Carmel. I like the middle name Odette, that sounds really pretty. For a boy: Edmund Johan is nice, I also like Jago, Benedict and Heath. X

Shmendrik is the Yiddish for an idiot/stupid person/jerk.

It's a very common insult and your child really isn't going to thank you for actually naming them something that sounds so similar.

It's at times like this I have greater insight into why certain countries make you pick a name from an approved list!

Overpayment · 23/10/2024 05:33

Cyan?? Wtf??

GourmetLettuceMix · 23/10/2024 05:38

I've come across a few Nevaehs in NZ (where people are not so judgemental about names). The one on my kid's sports team pronounces it Neeva, which is very pretty.

Richiewoo · 23/10/2024 06:09

Not nevah it's bloody awful. Emmeline is lovely

FayCarew · 23/10/2024 09:37

Wow… Emmeline seems to be fairly universally liked. Which is unusual on mumsnet.
I think it's more that it's better than the others.

It has been misspelt at least once on this thread, and it has more than one way of saying it (Em-uh-lyn/ Em-uh-leen).

UnpropitiousNightmares · 23/10/2024 10:05

Oh I absolutely adore Emmeline, it's a beautiful name!

And “Emma-Line”!

Its definitely pronounced Emma-Leen
