Name of a local town

OK so I absolutely love the name Fairlie, I knew a girl growing up called that and always thought it was so pretty. Only issue is it's the name of a town we live quite close to (about 20 mins away) like I know a few people that have named their babies the same name as the local island close to us (arran) but I'm wondering if its just too strange to give the baby a name of a town? Obviously I know islands like Harris, sky etc are coming but is a town too far?

Fairlie is a name I have heard of before.
So it's not just for that town.
Historically it can be for a boy too.
It's a great name.

There is also the spelling, Faerlie

Other similar names:
Faerie
Fairy

My old boss named his son Devon (as he lived there) and an acquaintance named her son after a local village. I would say go for it as it won't be the most unusual by a long way, in a class, if these threads are anything to go by!

Hmm I know a Fairlie (boy). Not anywhere near there though. I also know a Devon, Harlow, Marlow etc. No big deal IMO.

Chelsea, Dale, Barry.
Trent, Lincoln, Chester
Paisley, Hailey, Amberley.
Rayleigh, Brae, Ireland
All nice names, I think anyway.

Hi OP, Fairly (most common spelling) was slightly popular in the 17th-18th centuries, but not connected to the town. It seemed to mainly be used right up on the north coast so may have Gaelic origins, possibly a variant of Ferelith, which is from the Gaelic Farbhlaidh (spellings vary) meaning perfect princess. You could claim that meaning rather than the town!
