Really struggling with a girl’s name - Mia, Ella or something else 💜

8weekscrossed · 19/10/2024 20:29

We have 2 boys, very traditional names (Oliver and Joshua). We are having a girl but really struggling with a name.

It has to go with the boys names that are quite traditional. I liked Alice but my DH doesn’t like it.

We both think Mia and Ella are nice, but I’m just not sure they are ‘nice’ enough!

There are so many lovely girl names out there but we are really struggling! Any help appreciated.

They’re all just a bit done to death. Ella is a bit bland and nothingy. I know friends with kids with all of these names.

Love love Alicia, how are you pronouncing it? The one I know is Alice-ee-a. Not Alisha.

It goes more with your other children’s names.

Mia, I knew the nicest most magical person who was called Mia.

Freya as a possible

I love Alice: frustrating about DH!

I quite like Alicia if pronunciation is as this poster suggests but I’m not fond of A-leash-a.

What about Flora if you like Freya? It’s quite a traditional name like your boys.

NoOneKnowsWhoYouAre · 20/10/2024 10:17

I love Edie or Elsie

NoOneKnowsWhoYouAre · 20/10/2024 10:19

As the boys names both end in an "ah" sound, there is also Ada

Thank you all. @Atishooo it's odd, I don't know any Ella's - none in my son's school classes or around friends etc. I didn't think it was that popular.

I vote for Ella.

I was friends with an Ella at secondary school (in the late 2000’s) and always loved her name, it’s so feminine and pretty!

I’m due a baby girl in Feb and we’re going with ‘Charlotte’ which could be an option for you?🙂

• Ella
• Mia
• Freya

Of the three, Ella. I don't really like any of them and they have been overused for a long time.

I like the boys' names.

Alice, Harriet and Flora are all great. Alicia is OK but I don't like the Aleesha pronunciation.

Parker231 · 20/10/2024 18:38

I like Anna or Grace. Would have used one of them for DD but didn’t work well in our native languages.

Mia and Ella are quite overused, but if you love them then go for it.

Classic names to go with your boys' names would be:

Rebecca
Julia/Juliet
Josephine (maybe too close to Joshua)
Penelope (love the two short forms of this too)

orangetriangle · 20/10/2024 19:36

How about Elodie?

MerryMarys · 20/10/2024 20:02

This! We know sooo many Mias and Ellies....

MerryMarys · 20/10/2024 20:02

And Ellas!

shoopshoopdedoo · 20/10/2024 20:12

Love your boys’ names. I also, I helpfully, love Alice, but it’s obviously not a goer if your husband doesn’t like it. I’m not keen on Alicia.

Ella and Mia are both nice but don’t seem as strong or classic to me as Oliver and Joshua. I think Eleanor nn Ella could work. I like Freya best of your choices.

Also like PP suggestions of Anna, Rose, Helena (Lena, Nell), Harriet.

girljulian · 20/10/2024 20:14

Mia and Ella are both incredibly common and also just…boring. Alice is a great name!

fandjango · 20/10/2024 20:24

Emilia - Can be shortened to Milly, Mia,
