Cousins with similar first name

Jack and Jaxon.

Are these too similar? My dear grandfather was Jack so I want to use the name however there is a cousin Jaxon.
does anyone know people with cousins with the same name or very similar?
will have different surnames. Not worried about looking like I have copied as people know the link to the name for myself.
do I or my husband need to speak to my in laws/ his family?

I think it's fine, it depends how precious your family members are though.

If you want to use it you could let them know before hand if you think it's necessary.
How close are you?

We had a Nick, Nicky and Vicky in our family!

We have a Mia and Maya.
Also my cousin used the same name as us, it really isn't a problem.

Is it a sibling's child, or a cousin's child? Are they likely to be close or close in age? Does Jaxon get called Jack? If there are lots of cousins, then I don't see an issue.

There are cousins in my extended family with the names Chris and Christopher. Born the same year. Live in the same area. Not a problem.

I’d give probably give them a heads up explaining why you want Jack so much (due to your Grandad) - but not ask for “permission” iykwim? As you have no reason to - but yes technically they are almost the same name, as Jaxon obviously means “Jack’s son” and I suspect the cousin will get shortened to “Jax” too - so I’d personally mention what you we’re planning just to be polite.

As for knowing relatives with the same name - there are several fathers and sons with the same name in my family and I have a zillion cousins so name sharing doesnt seem that big a deal to me 🤣 but I can see how in small families or with very unusual names it might be odd.
