Would it be wrong...

To give a boy a nickname of BJ?
I love both the names in this particular order, and yes he would have other nicknames with his shortened B name.
Also I listen to a podcast where BJ is their dogs name (also initials) and so it's become norm for me to hear it in a non sexualised context.
I don't live in the UK, and although I'm sure they still use it here I don't think it's as big a thing as it is in the uk? Although I could be wrong on that one!

Of course it would!

GrumpOlympics · 17/10/2024 16:48

Yes.

Scutterbug · 17/10/2024 16:49

Doesn’t seem to bother Boris Johnson.

Blueuggboots · 17/10/2024 16:49

I did know a man by this nickname but he was also called Bernard and was quite old.
Would I give a child that nickname? Absolutely not.

Scutterbug · 17/10/2024 16:49

Doesn’t seem to bother Boris Johnson.

He doesn’t go by BJ.

Doesn’t seem to bother BJ Novak.

But as you had to ask OP, yes, you know it’s probably not the best idea.

Orrinocc0 · 17/10/2024 16:52

Hell no. You can't do that.

LaTable · 17/10/2024 16:52

Only because it was pointed out to me hahaha I forget that it's such a big thing for others
Great. Okay , okay to have the initials BJDL but not use BJ as a nickname?

I think initials BJ are fine if it's not a nickname.

LaTable · 17/10/2024 16:56

Well that's that sorted then! Thanks guys

I wouldn't have BJ as initials at all. My DS is PJ and even that produced hilarious graffiti.....

Jen880 · 17/10/2024 18:11

God no. I wouldn't pick a B first name if our surname begins with J either.

Christmastinsel78 · 17/10/2024 18:18

Just no. Not a good idea at all.

YourWinter · 17/10/2024 18:22

Cruel and stupid, but you do you. Goady, in that every time you tell anyone your child is called BJ you’ll watch their face for the reaction?

LaTable · 17/10/2024 19:46

Except I wouldnt ever introduce any of my children with their nickname regardless if their nickname was pudding, sweetpea, jellybean or cunty? Because its a nickname. They have formal names. Which are very strictly adhered to in the country we live. So they'd only get a natural nickname from friends when they're friends.

If you live outside the UK, is it a non English first language country? If so then I’m sure the nickname BJ would be fine (I’d have no idea of what the slang is for blow jobs in most other languages after all). But I probably wouldn’t do it in a majority English speaking country. The initials BDJL would be fine in any country afaik - BL would be used most of the time anyway, so you could probably even get away with BJDL.

SabreIsMyFave · 17/10/2024 22:58

What about calling him Victor Daniel? You can call him by those initials then!

EveryOtherNameTaken · 17/10/2024 23:02

Blow job. No.

But he doesn't have a nickname of BJ.🙄🙄

CatsCuddles · 17/10/2024 23:04

no i wouldn’t do that. my kids initials were STD and not even in that order and someone still noticed it and pointed it out to me i hadn’t even noticed, thankfully had another child 😂

stormwarrierridesthewaves · 18/10/2024 11:09

I wouldn't even notice to be fair, but there are plenty who would.

greenpasturesandcloverfields · 18/10/2024 17:29

I think that initials make very easy and personalized nicknames.
BJ has an exceptionally good flow to it.
A young man in our family is an AJ.
It's perfect using the initials of the first and second names; easy to remember, easy to say, how could that be wrong.
