Why not Moses?

Why is Moses not more popular? Do you think it will become more popular? It's not that different from Noah really and that's everywhere

I really like Moses! Also love Amos.

Amos is great written down but when I hear it sounds like anus to me 😩

Are you pronouncing it correctly? If you are it sounds nothing like anus.

Where I come from Amos is pronounced A-mus.
Moses shortened to Mo, not a fan of either name myself.
Why not Morris, or Maury ( nn of Maurice)? Not, btw, pronounced the French way, but the English way.

Moses could catch on - when I first heard Noah and Jonah I had strong associations with the bible stories, but now they just sound like lovely, traditional boy’s names, so I think it’s just a matter of people meeting a couple of little Moses to shift those associations.

Moses is attractive, well known and has great associations in literature/stories.

I once knew a Moses. Very nice man.

deliwoman1 · 16/10/2024 14:29

Moses is nice, I think. But I can't bear 'Mo' as an abbreviation so it spoils the name for me.

We're thinking about Amos, but we pronounce it A-moss. Moss for short. Doesn't sound like anus to us.

Moses is the name of my tortoise. It's a lovely name.

NeckolasCage · 16/10/2024 14:42

It’s very heavy and beardy. Just more oppressive than Noah I think.

the proof is just in the pudding with these things! If it was a name which more folk just liked, for no reason other than the sound, it would be used more! Doesn’t Gwyneth P have a Moses? That would make sense. Heavy and weighty and just a bit aaarrrgh no not now please… just like a Coldplay song 🤷‍♀️

NeckolasCage · 16/10/2024 14:43

Don’t get the wrong idea after all that - I actually like it! But I can see how it’s more marmite than the supremely inoffensive Noah.
