Ayla

My husband is dead set on Ayla for our girl. It stems from us both loving the trance track when we were younger. I am more into names related to plants for some reason,
Rose, ivy, poppy or fern.
I don't want any bullying nicknames attached to a name and to be fair I can't think of any for Ayla.
What to you think?

My daughter is Ayla Ivy. Best of both worlds!
I get tons on compliments on her name actually as it's a bit different but not too much.

I prefer Isla which sounds similar. I like all the plant names you listed except Ivy.

Ayla Ivy is lovely
Also like Ayla Fern

Also funny story we couldn't decide between Ayla and Ayda and we were driving to hospital for my induction and the trance song Ayla came on the radio... Decision made!

Moreteaandchocolate · 13/10/2024 08:55

Ayla is lovely! Are you pronouncing it to rhyme with Layla, or like Isla?

Love it.

DuchessOfSausage · 13/10/2024 11:38

I don't like it. Fail-a, ailing.

Sugarplp · 13/10/2024 11:40

I know an Ayla pronounce like you want to. Adore her name, really suits her. Don't like Isla, reminds me of supermarket aisle.

BoleynMemories13 · 13/10/2024 12:45

I never know whether to pronounce this as Ay-la or Eye-la. Ay-la I don't like at all, as it's awkward to say and reminds me of the word ailing. Eye-la is ok, spelt Isla.

Really like both

Ay la and Isla. Yours is a lovely name.

Clearinguptheclutter · 13/10/2024 13:16

I know one who pronounces it like Isla
looks a bit wrong to me
I think Ayla should be like Layla without the L. To rhyme with May/say/day not eye

It's the Layla sound I like. I've just responded to someone else to Aye -la which when read out loud in my accent it sounds like Isla! But can't figure how to edit

Always loved the name Ayla. She is the heroine of the Earth Children book series by Jean M Auel, very strong female character!

MyStylish40s · 13/10/2024 13:27

It’s beautiful

I don’t think I’ve come across it before

marshmallowfinder · 13/10/2024 13:34

I'm afraid I really dislike it as it just sounds like 'ailer' (ailing/failer/failure...) and an ugly noise. Fern is a beautiful name though.

Ayla Ivy becomes Aylarivy when said out loud, so it isn't great as a middle name.

DuchessOfSausage · 13/10/2024 14:05

Eilidh is nice

SunshineSunshineYouMakeMeFeelAlive · 13/10/2024 20:34

I love Ayala. Similar I guess.

The name is Turkish and you pronounce it like Isla:

My dear friend is Turkish and called Ayla, I can’t fathom this new trend of pronouncing it A-la.
If you want to honour the name and its origin, pronounce it as eye-la or don’t use it at all

sel2223 · 24/03/2025 01:07

Layla and Ayla are both beautiful Turkish names pronounced differently.

Ayla is pronounced the same as Isla. You were right when you said 'Aye-la' (I'm a Geordie too)

If you like the Layla sound, just go with Layla.......
