I love the name. Think it's understated & would travel well. Also think it's quite classless & can't be judged too quickly.
Any opinions?!

My son has a little friend called Molly. I think it’s nice.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/10/2024 17:45

All the Molly's I've met have been lovely.

WaltzingWaters · 11/10/2024 17:50

I heard it a lot in relation to MDMA whilst backpacking. A good friend called her Dd Molly recently and at first my mind would always skip to that. But I’m used to it now and it is a nice name.

Spaceracers · 11/10/2024 17:51

I know a 40 year old and a 6 year old Molly - both lovely. I agree it's pretty timeless!

StillAtTheRestaurant · 11/10/2024 17:51

All the Mollys I've met have been dogs.

pluckyday · 11/10/2024 17:56

Molly is quite a popular/common name - I know 3! Ranging from 7 to 32yrs.

I think it's a bit girl-next-door, meh, not offensive but not the best.

Isitreallythiscrap · 11/10/2024 17:58

I like it but tend to think of it as a pet's name, and also molly maid always springs to mind.

ticklecrabs · 11/10/2024 18:03

Cute on a small child, faintly ridiculous on a grown woman, cringeworthy in a serious/professional setting.

BreatheAndFocus · 11/10/2024 18:06

I see Molly as a washerwoman with red arms, and possible a cap over her hair. I don’t like the name really.

It’s also a kind of fish 🐠

Osory · 11/10/2024 18:07

I agree that's its pretty timeless and classless . Reminds me of my great auntie Moll. I like it.

Sunplanner · 11/10/2024 18:09

Kitchen maid or tropical fish. Sorry!

Lauz841 · 11/10/2024 18:11

It's cute for a child, or an old maid person, but I don't think it sounds like a successful adult name. I'm not sure why, I just can't imagine saying good morning, this is Doctor Molly X speaking. It's quite a popular name at the minute where I live, I think there's 3 in my son's year at school. But my Aunt also has a Spaniel called Molly, affectionately known as Molly Mop, so it wouldn't be a name for me.

WitchyBits · 11/10/2024 18:12

My first thought was drugs, second was tropical fish. But the fish is because I've just had a molly that was a horrific bully and had to rehome all 4 of them. Personally I think molly as a name is slightly damp and childish. Something about the single syllable followed by the ee at the end. Feels twee? But I do know a molly and she's a lovely young woman

girljulian · 11/10/2024 18:15

Two associations for me:

  1. Molly houses
  2. Ragdolls

DH has a niece called Molly. It's not one of my favourite names.

wizzbitt · 11/10/2024 18:17

It's a cute name

Yes, same here on both counts!

shoopshoopdedoo · 11/10/2024 18:20

I really like it

Rainrainngoaway · 11/10/2024 18:23

I think it’s a lovely name and perfectly good in a professional setting. I prefer Mollie but it’s a classless timeless name

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/10/2024 18:30

I like it, unless it's spelt 'Mollie' which just makes it seem oddly twee, somehow.

Same goes for 'Hollie', 'Poppie' and 'Millie'.

There are an awful lot of Mollys and Maisies and Millies out there. Might you think of a more formal name- something like Miranda or Amelia or whatever and call her Molly as a diminutive? A sweet name for a child might not be what the want at 25?
My friend's daughter has landed her little boy with 'Teddy' as a proper name.......

MonkeyToHeaven · 11/10/2024 18:45

My Nan's sister was called Molly. Lovely human being.

Pyjamatimenow · 11/10/2024 18:48

Sounds very boring and a bit wet. All the kids I’ve known called Molly have been along those lines.

Sharontheodopolodous · 11/10/2024 18:50

Dd is a molly
I just fell in love with the name when pregnant with her
The other names I had in mind where poppy or evie
Big sis is a sophie

mathanxiety · 11/10/2024 18:50

Nice for babies and children up to age 8 or so, and for very old ladies. But I think it lacks gravitas for all the decades in between.
