What other names with a similar theme are there? Floral, a bit retro (1930s kind of vibe)?

And what kind of middle names go with the floral? I'm tempted by a really traditional middle name like "Janet" or "Susan". Is that all a bit too much?

I do like Zinnia, Dahlia and Daphne. Not too keen on Sorrel, although I should be - she was one of Noel Streatfeild's put-upon eldest-child characters (in Theatre Shoes, I think) and her name suited her - kind of a little melancholy. Also she'd constantly get 'sorry, Sorrel' at school.
Jane would be a great middle name for most of these choices. Manages to be classic and retro at the same time.

For the PP who liked Plum - Prunella? (I think that's prob the wrong side of 'out there', tbh, though).
Mirabel/Mirabelle would be another one (fruit rather than flower name).

I love Amaryllis as well, but suspect that might be a bit much, even if shortened to 'Amy'.

Tansy Jane.

Violet is another floral name

That made me think of Marilla, a la Anne of Green Gables. One of Anne's daughters was called Rilla, which could work as a shortening. Marilla Jane would be a lovely, retro name with no spelling or pronunciation issues and definitely no others in the class.

Love Sorrel. If this baby had been a girl, she would have been Sorrel.

Hazel

I knew a woman once whose three daughters were May, Hazel and Rowan. Beautiful. No idea what their middle names were, though!

FloofPaws · 11/10/2024 12:50

Sorrel is one of my top names too! Also Hebe, ivy and lily

honeylulu · 11/10/2024 18:04

Sorrel is lovely (I also like Daisy and Tansy). There was a girl called Sorrel at my school, the only one I've ever met.

My mum has a friend with twin daughters called Willow and Fern, I thought those "natural" names went so well together though they are both quite popular now.

Hazel is lovely and slightly retro though my 10 year old knows two Hazels so maybe it's having a comeback.

I love Saffron, the one I know is from a really hippy family and is gorgeous. As are saffron flowers! I'm always surprised it doesn't get mentioned more in these flower name threads.

I love Sorrel too!
