Ronan and Ruairi

Moreteaandchocolate · 03/10/2024 16:17

Aidan, Ronan and Callan are my favourites, I also like Ruairi a lot but would find the spelling a pain!

Martiniolives · 03/10/2024 16:18

I love Rauiri and would've considered it if mine was a boy!

Dottiespotty · 03/10/2024 16:18

Ronan

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 03/10/2024 16:18

Aidan is my favourite. Ruairi is nice as well but he may have to spell it out for a lot of people.

Babyboyno2 · 03/10/2024 16:22

Is Ronan to similar to “Roman” which is very popular atm, only thing putting me off slightly

Sleepnplay · 03/10/2024 16:50

Ruairi, than Aidan, both lovely

mathanxiety · 03/10/2024 16:51

Darragh and Ruairi are fab imo.

Babyboyno2 · 03/10/2024 17:02

is there suppose to be fadas on Ruairi?

OP posts:
KirstenBlest · 03/10/2024 17:53

Yes, fada on the last letter. All the names are nice but:

Ronan - Roman and Rowan are popular, also Reuben, Rory etc
Aidan - Jayden, Brayden popular
Aodhán - pronunciation and spelling may vary
Callan - OK, might get Calan, Callum or Callahan
Darragh - OK, might get Darren
Ruairi - It will be misspelt on almost a daily basis
Caolán - likely to be misspelt and mispronounced

My favourite is Callan.

Liv999 · 03/10/2024 20:01

Ronan is my favourite!

Babyboyno2 · 03/10/2024 21:25

Top 3 atm would be Callan, Aidan & Ruairí
really like Ronan just many Romans around recently

Caolan

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/10/2024 23:06

Aidan if you want to be classic/traditional (in N.Ireland or Ireland).

Callan if you want him to stand out a bit more.

Usually I would always choose the classic as it’s likely to be more timeless- but Cal is just such a cool diminutive that it sways me! Reminds me of James Dean in East of Eden.

Less keen on your other picks - and I understand wanting to use the Gaelic, but if the anglicised versions are as widely used where you are then I’d pick them just for ease if he travels when older (if the Gaelic are more common, then stick with them).

EdgeOfSixty · 04/10/2024 00:28

Roman and Darragh

PreggersWithBaby2 · 04/10/2024 07:49

I love Aidan and Darragh!! The Ruairi / Rory confusion that I see regularly turns me off using them. I prefer Caolan to Caolán. Good name choices though OP, they are all fab!

Radiolala · 04/10/2024 07:52

Please can I ask how you pronounce Aodhán and Caolán? They look beautiful written down but I know that I would never guess correctly.

I have a friend with a Darragh which is lovely.

Aid-awn

Kee-lawn

Babyboyno2 · 04/10/2024 09:07

@Radiolala Aodhán- is supposed to be ay-awn however any I know do pronounce the d so it’s “ay-dawn” same as Aidan is said
again with caolán any I know it’s pronounced “ke-lawn”

Ruairi and Darragh are my favourites.

PadstowGirl · 04/10/2024 09:33

All lovely.
Callan is my fav though.

Viviennemary · 04/10/2024 09:37

They all sound fine. Some look a little hard to pronounce for those not familiar with those names.

KirstenBlest · 04/10/2024 09:51

In the replies, @Babyboyno2 , both Ronan and Ruairi have been misspelt.
Ronan is a million times nicer than Roman.
(I don't see the appeal of Roman at all)
