Help!!

We're looking for names that are at least 3 syllables.
Middle names will either be Freddie or Lewis for a boy or Lou for a girl.

For a girl we love Thea as a nickname and are pretty much set on this. My husband loves the full name Theodora (from a film tv show where we first fell in love with the name Thea) whereas I love Athea and we can't agree.

For a boy we are not set at all and really have no clue. If it helps, we like Theodore, but all I hear now is people calling their babies Theo. We also like Sebastian but this is the name of our friend's son.

So I guess I'm looking for opinions on girls names that make use of the name Thea and any suggestions for boys names inspired by what we like.

Dorothea
Or if you both agree on Thea just choose that.

Nathaniel or Alexander have a similar vibe to Sebastian.

I love Thea as a name in its own right - I much prefer it to the longer names Althea / Theodora / Dorothea etc… and would just put Thea on the birth certificate, personally

Dorothea feels old fashioned, but not in a nice way. Personally I’d just use Thea if that’s what you’re set on.

Thea is lovely.
Thea Lou isn't that nice.

Theadora Lou
Thea Louisa is smart.

Thank you all, such great suggestions!

For girls names with the nn Thea, I adore 4 syllable Alethea - it has a lovely meaning and is nicer than very similar Althea imo.
I also love the name Theia (“Thay-ah”) in its own right, the original version of Thea but less popular for some reason.

For boys it sounds like you like Greek influenced names - so Nicholas (nn Nico/Cole) or Alexander (too many nicknames to mention !) might be good options. I also think Latin Maximilian has a similar feel to Sebastian, but is less popular. Or if you don’t mind very unusual, nature linked/literary Caspian is nice too.

Mumofgirls2017 · 27/10/2024 19:25

If you can’t agree just go for Thea? Or something different like Dorothea, Athena (bit stretchy!)

boys wise…

I like Thea by itself. I think most 'thea' names have been suggested already. As a stretch, possibly Xanthippe could become Thea?

I have a young relative called Caspian who I occasionally call Sebastian by mistake. So maybe Caspian could be an option for you, they sound similar to me.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 28/10/2024 13:25

I think Thea works in its own right so think it’s fine to just go with that.

If you need a long one then Theodora or Dorothea.

for boys I like the suggestion of Alexander

TheMummyJade · 29/10/2024 01:54

I think Theodora Lou is absolutely precious, and gives her more nickname options, something to consider ???

mathanxiety · 29/10/2024 02:29

Theodosia Louisa?

I think Theodora Lou is perfect though.

RogueFemale · 29/10/2024 02:45

A bit odd to have the desired nickname dictate the legal name.
I don't like Theodora (frumpy).

If you both love Thea then why not just call her Thea, and forget the nn?

I'd suggest alternatives of Sibylla or Venetia

Theo for a boy is so very over-popular nowadays.

I'd suggest alternatives of Amadeus or Cosmo.

timoteigirl · 29/10/2024 10:03

What about Thora or Thalia for a girl? equally hard sounding names. Or Claudia?
