We really love the name Raine, we feel it's different, pretty, not over used but not too out there. We are pretty set on it for our baby girl but need help with middle names! At the moment we have Raine Ivy Evans but would love to hear more suggestions. Thank you!

Raine is pronounced (Rain)

I think it needs a longer middle name. Rained Elizabeth

Amazed how many people haven't heard of Raine as a proper first name! I think it's lovely and that it works very well with Ivy as a MN.

Wasn’t it Princess Diana’s SM? Raine Spencer.

Raine Elizabeth. Stupid autocorrect.

MaltipooMama · 29/09/2024 10:38

I think Raine Ivy is lovely, stick with that! Raine is a beautiful name and I can't believe how many people don't seem to have heard of it, also on a side note I always find it hilarious on mumsnet how many people miss the point of the thread and start dishing out their unwanted advice on something completely different. I don't believe you've asked anyone if they like the name Raine at any point yet somehow so many of them feel the need to share their opinions!

Nannyoggapple · 29/09/2024 10:39

You have to say that "Acid Raine" was a good nickname!

Clingfilm · 29/09/2024 10:42

It's a nice name, in the realms of Renee, Wren etc. Anyway. I think 2 syllable middle names would go best, and Elizabeth.

Raine Hannah
Raine Elizabeth
Raine Florence
Raine Lucy
Raine Annie

CarmelaBrunella · 29/09/2024 10:43

Raine Annie? Ray Nanny?

Is it common on these forums that you post asking for ideas or help with something and people decide to run their negative opinions by you instead?

I'm sorry OP but you seem a bit naive.

If you come on here and ask for middle name ideas, people aren't just going to supply a long list of middle names. They're also go to comment on whether they like the first name or not.

Especially if the name is a bit "out there" and unusual like Raine

BashfulClam · 29/09/2024 10:58

I do know one Raine but hers is short for Lorraine. I really like Raine Skye that a pp suggested.

Also remember to be careful of initials. R Evans is fine. Stacy Solomon called two of her Children names begging with R and their father is Joe Swash to they have the awful luck of being R Swash….eek

MrsEvans09 · 29/09/2024 09:50

i don’t know if you’re overthinking it or I’m under thinking it. The Rain and them as a person are two different things, I’m sure she’ll know people aren’t talking about her.

I think you're underthinking it tbh.

RuthW · 29/09/2024 10:59

Raine is a perfectly reasonable name. Rain isn't

You need a longer middle name.

Raine Eliza
Raine Joanna

Saymyname8 · 29/09/2024 13:55

I think it's a cool name so I'd put a classic, beautiful name alongside it and a long one for more balance in syllables.

Raine Elizabeth
Raine Alexandra
Raine Charlotte
Raine Victoria

All v regal too which was unintentional!

I saw you mention Ophelia. We were talking about this name yesterday as we heard it in the park. I think it's really pretty too but I'd avoid personally as it just conjures up Ophelia in Hamlet who is such a tragic figure. But each to their own! Some don't like my Dd's name but we love it.

Congratulations!

Iwishiwasyounger · 29/09/2024 14:07

I knew a Lebanese girl called Raine, it is a lovely name & we never associated it with rain, which is not a name. It is derived from the French word reine which means Queen.
Raine Theodora
Raine Arabella
Raine Gabrielle/Gabriella
I love it. It sounds quiet aristocratic & different without being too ‘out there’ .

Busted2006 · 29/09/2024 14:11

I know two children called Raine.

I think it’s lovely btw, she will be fine.

I don’t like Raine and Ivy together though, maybe because they are both nature names

BootballJoy · 29/09/2024 17:45

It's a pretty name. I think a kind of Grace Kelly Riviera old school name would work well as the middle name. Something like Caroline, Katharine, Madeleine, Stephanie, Penelope, Margaret, Marianne, Helena, Beatrice.

Frozenberries · 29/09/2024 18:15

Nannyoggapple · 29/09/2024 10:15

If you read any book about Princess Diana, her stepmother Raine is mentioned in it.

Oh I don’t dispute it. I’ve not read any books about her and so haven’t come across it but can see lots have and I’m probably in the minority. I just don’t think many primary aged kids in 5 years or so would be aware of princess Diana’s step mum. I do think thought that they could say chants like rain rain go away.

Yes! MN hate my style of names so I've stopped asking for opinions 😅

Raine Ivy sounds a little too naturey for me, although it does flow nicely. I like Raine Elizabeth that some previous posters suggested.

I know this is not what you asked, but I've also heard of the name Reina (pronounced Rain-a).

Mumsnet hate all style of names 🤣
I had bog standard ones that were still ripped to shreds.

I wouldn't say that mumsnet hate all names

I've seen lots of lovely names on here.

Raine, in my opinion, is particularly bad

It's grey, miserable and dull

VoteLabour · 01/10/2024 12:41

It's a name likely to be taken the mickey out of it.

Mummytoone7 · 09/04/2025 22:02

What middle name did you go for? My daughter is Raine Margot

RuthW · 09/04/2025 22:07

Peonies12 · 29/09/2024 08:18

Please do your child a favour and spell it Rain.

But that’s not how you spell the name Raine

Saymyname8 · 09/04/2025 22:28

Autumnweddingguest · 29/09/2024 08:59

I like it. And yes, spelled with an e. It was Princess Di's stepmother's name.

I'd add quite a long middle name with it. Not saying I love these names necessarily but the number of syllables flows.

Raine Josephine
Raine Arabella
Raine Marguerite
Raine Beatrice
Raine Gabriella

Completely agree with balancing it with a long name, especially since Evans is short too.

I’d personally also go very classic with the middle name. Like Raine Elizabeth - but I like a traditional middle name.

Raine Isabella Evans
Raine Alexandra Evans
Raine Eloise Evans
Raine Charlotte Evans…

I think Raine is lovely. Congratulations.

Saymyname8 · 09/04/2025 22:29

Oh goodness me - didn’t check the date! Hope you’re all well OP! And little Raine!
