We really love the name Raine, we feel it's different, pretty, not over used but not too out there. We are pretty set on it for our baby girl but need help with middle names! At the moment we have Raine Ivy Evans but would love to hear more suggestions. Thank you!

Raine is pronounced (Rain)

My issue is thatt it is a word that other children and adults will use on a daily basis if you live in the UK and Ireland.

" I'm sick of this bloody rain'
'Not rain again'
" rain rain go away"

I know you're spelling it differently but these are the kinds of things your child will hear a lot. Is it a message you want them to imbibe?

Nannyoggapple · 29/09/2024 09:43

What drew you to Raine out if interest, OP?

Did you see it somewhere in a baby book?

Or do you like nature names?

i don’t know if you’re overthinking it or I’m under thinking it. The Rain and them as a person are two different things, I’m sure she’ll know people aren’t talking about her.

We just love the name. I saw it once, I think on a baby name TikTok! And loved it and my husband loved it too. I quite like names that are less common.

Raine is an actual name whereas rain isn't.

This.

Pyjamatimenow · 29/09/2024 09:53

I think it’s nice. Also like Irayne.

MrsEvans09 · 29/09/2024 09:54

Is it common on these forums that you post asking for ideas or help with something and people decide to run their negative opinions by you instead?

I think that the reactions on here are likely to be fairly typical of those that your child will encounter in life if given a name like Raine. Rightly or wrongly.

You might want to think on that.

I personally like it, but it's probably a good idea to take things into account.
Diana's step mother was Raine Spencer. She and her siblings disliked her and chanted "Raine, Raine, go away" at her. Now bullying can happen in any circumstance, but just consider giving your child a homonym like this.

I think Raine Ivy Evans is beautiful. A lovely cadence to my ear. It doesn’t recall Lorraine for me at all, but then I know a gorgeous little girl called Rain who we all call ‘Rainy.’ 🥰

And re. Princess Di’s stepmum and the ‘Acid’ nn. She may have been a true bitch and deserved it in the worst way, but if you are going to be thought of badly, at least it’s a badass nickname! 😂

Cloud

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 29/09/2024 09:59

I think it's lovely and Ivy as a middle name beats all the other suggestions on here so far.

Mumsnet seems to universally hate every name except Ottilie.

Yes. You asked for people's opinions. Some are positive, some are negative. You didn't specify that you only wanted positive opinions.

People do post asking for opinions on names. Not all will be favourable. It's usually a mix.

Firenzeflower · 29/09/2024 09:59

Raine goes with nothing sorry and I'm not a school bully. Don't give your kid a weird name and expect people not to react.
Raine is the name of Princess Diana's evil step mother.
Raine Ophelia is truly a crime .
Sorry it just is.
If you have to give it to your poor child then use it as a middle name.

Please do your child a favour and spell it Rain.

Don't do this

Raine is fine

Novaavon · 29/09/2024 10:04

I think a longer middle name goes well as Raine only has one syllable.

Raine Elizabeth
Raine Annabelle
Raine Charlotte
Raine Louise
Raine Matilda
Raine Alexandra

UpTheMagicFarawayTree · 29/09/2024 10:05

I do like it, but people talking negatively about the rain would make me seriously consider whether to use it or not.

I think it is pretty though. It could go well with:
Ariadne
Edith
Emilia
Lillian
Sophia

Frozenberries · 29/09/2024 10:10

I’m 38 so very familiar with princess diana but I had no idea about her step mother named raine. I really don’t think that will be an issue for school children in ten years time. However the chants like rain rain go away could still happen. I would pick a more traditional middle name so if she doesn’t like Raine she can go with a middle name

Raine Charlotte
Raine Sophia
Raine Matilda etc

CarmelaBrunella · 29/09/2024 10:11

I think it's less to do with Diana, and more what children will do with the name Raine.

Absolutely yes!

It's like real life. You'll get good and bad opinions.

Nowhere on mumsnet will you get 100% good opinions, as real life is not like that either.

If you read any book about Princess Diana, her stepmother Raine is mentioned in it.

Enko · 29/09/2024 10:15

Raine is a beautiful name it was on our shortlist but baby was a boy.

Not sure why but Audrey popped into my head seeing the title

Raine Audrey

unsync · 29/09/2024 10:19

Another reminded of Diana, Princess of Wales' stepmother 'Acid Raine'.

That would be the evil step mother Diana became.very close with in her adult life?

NorthWestWise · 29/09/2024 10:26

Raine is a lovely name. Yes there are things a school bully could do with it, but there are such a variety of names now I think the risk is much lower than it would have been in the 80s when all the girls were called Sarah, Lisa and Claire.

I know an adult Rainer.

Raine Clementine Evans
Raine Susannah Evans
Raine Elizabeth is lovely
