Pregnancy brain and the 'almost' baby names

Chatting with friends today about how pregnancy does crazy things to your brain and can make you absolutely fall in love with the most random names ever.

With my DD1, she is very fortunate not to be called 'Mango' (which my pregnancy brain decided was just the best name i had ever heard) 🙈🤣

One of the girls today had 'Skype' on her final list but hubby thankfully vetoed it, another wanted to call her son 'Duke'.

Has this happened to anyone else and you look back and think what the heck was I thinking? I don't just mean normal names you didn't pick, I mean totally random words that non pregnant you wouldn't even entertain!

Velvet 😂

MistyF · 28/09/2024 18:32

I loved Poem for a girl. Also Velvet. Both as middle names.

Exceedinglyexceedinglyrich · 28/09/2024 18:33

Ariel for a boy.

TripleCarber · 28/09/2024 18:33

Also Velvet like pp, Story and Fable
(I still secretly kind of like Fable 😂🤷‍♀️)

I had Michael on my list. I mean, it's a normal enough name but never felt any love for it before or since pregnancy!

jammyjanner · 28/09/2024 18:37

Yes for a brief moment I thought True was adorable and couldn't understand why everyone assumed I was joking.

Nicebloomers · 28/09/2024 18:44

Fable is lovely

Suz8 · 28/09/2024 19:16

Nothing too out there but I had named my daughter up until 30 odd weeks (from early!) then overnight decided I hated the name. It's a perfectly nice name. Thea.

StressedQueen · 28/09/2024 19:23

Wanted to name my twin daughters Millicent and Matilda with the nicknames Milly and Tilly...I have no idea what I was thinking!! DH thankfully managed to make me move past it.

DonutRings · 28/09/2024 19:30

Think I'm going to win this one. We decided we wanted a Biblical name so for about 48 hours I was seriously considering Habbakuk. I think on some level I knew it was insane but it wasn't as obvious to me as it should have been....

TidyDancer · 28/09/2024 19:40

I know a baby Velvet. She has a sister with an equally unusual name. Lovely family despite their taste in baby names!

I wanted either Cherry or Sherry. Still not over that tbh. 😂

PaganOfTheGoodTimes · 28/09/2024 19:45

Kiplyn... I heard it on a true crime podcast and loved it 🫣 then found out it was a boy and nearly went with Mungo... but luckily didn't!

VenusClapTrap · 28/09/2024 19:52

Anemone. This board stopped me, so thank you.

(secretly I still think it’s fabulous)

My hamsters are Milly and Tilly.

GoldenNuggets08 · 28/09/2024 20:02

I know someone who wanted to call her daughter Navy 😅

MammaKel · 28/09/2024 20:03

I was gonna call my little boy Luther, absolutely loved it and wouldn't be swayed ..

He isn't called Luther thankfully 😆

christmasfish · 28/09/2024 20:06

Didn't quite actually want the name but our baby names app suggested Skelflesh for a girl. I assume it was a glitch.

Every so often I wonder if someone named their newborn daughter Skelflesh.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 28/09/2024 20:07

Bliss.
Romeo.
Valentino.
Rocky.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/09/2024 20:11

DH highlighted both 'Rolf' and 'Cornelius' in the baby names book. Our sons are named neither, thankfully. Name madness is not just for girls...

spiderlight · 28/09/2024 20:27

My DH suggested Athelstan.

TripleCarber · 28/09/2024 20:33

Dh wanted Ilsa for a girl, or Ragnor for a boy.
They're not to my taste personally.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/09/2024 20:34

Ingenue for a girl - despite the meaning, I still think it sounds so pretty in a French accent. Also Reverie- which is probably a touch more useable, but I still wouldn’t have actually done it 🤣.

Wolf for a boy - which isn’t that weird actually (still went for something much more “normal” though).

CherryValley5 · 28/09/2024 20:35

DD was nearly Heidi (after my midwife) or Portia! She wishes she was a Portia and to be honest I do agree that it would really suit her. It’s just so hard to picture the person that a tiny baby will grow up to be. She hates her name as apparently it’s too boring - teenagers….

Nicebloomers · 28/09/2024 20:36

on a similar theme to my previous admission on ‘Velvet’ I also had ‘Calico’ on my list. I had boys thankfully and then pulled myself together by the time I had my daughter.

Same!! Maybe it was googling your thread that put me off it 😂

Pregnant again though, so there’s still a possibility for a little Anemone…

Edited as misspelled Anemone. 😂😂😂
