Pregnancy brain and the 'almost' baby names

Chatting with friends today about how pregnancy does crazy things to your brain and can make you absolutely fall in love with the most random names ever.

With my DD1, she is very fortunate not to be called 'Mango' (which my pregnancy brain decided was just the best name i had ever heard) 🙈🤣

One of the girls today had 'Skype' on her final list but hubby thankfully vetoed it, another wanted to call her son 'Duke'.

Has this happened to anyone else and you look back and think what the heck was I thinking? I don't just mean normal names you didn't pick, I mean totally random words that non pregnant you wouldn't even entertain!

I know someone who called her kid Zebedee (neither she nor her partner had any family history or heritage which might have normalised that). We all blinked when we were told but have moved on 😂

What heritage do you imagine is needed to ‘normalise’ it? It’s a Biblical name. Zebedee was the father of two of the apostles.

Lorelei. Made worse as our surname two syllables both beginning with L. Poor Dd 1 would have gone through life as a tongue twister.

It’s originally a Hebrew name I think. The family I knew were neither Christian church goers nor from a Jewish background on either side hence why this was quite an unusual choice.

But neither are the vast majority of the people who call their children Eli, Naomi, Adam, Nathaniel, Noah etc. We’re atheists and DS has a Biblical name.

I was toying with the names Phoebe and Monica, this was six years before Friends was a thing but imagine the hell it would have been being Monica at school when you are kind of a Monica. Luckily I rejected Phoebe as it clashed with our surname and Monica because it sounded awkward with my already chosen middle name.

These are great. My mum toyed with Giselle for me which I’d have been thrilled with at 6 years old but not for much longer after that. There is no French heritage.

I am 19 weeks pregnant and trying to convince DH that Max is a perfectly good middle name for a girl 😂 deep down I know it is not, but I think it sounds cool!

Reminds me of Max from Stranger Things...
which is a good thing. (She was really Maxine though.)

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 30/09/2024 10:21

Azalea.

Honeysuckle. Luckily I had a boy, (although I still kind a like the name!)

Alectoishome · 30/09/2024 11:04

Calypso and Ophelia

I like Ophelia. I mean I get the whole “ I feel ya” thing, but most names have some joke that can be made.,

We really struggled with a name....

One day I decided that I absolutely loved Jed, that was the name (I still secretly like it), husband came home and was said "Jed, as in Jedward" the weird group on X Factor. I cried so much 😂

That's one of my favourite names. Jed as in short for Jedediah.

Radcliffe, for a girl, like the kid from the League of Gentlemen 😂

Snowdrops17 · 30/09/2024 11:47

I like story still do but I know DP would never go for it and I love the name we picked even more
