Pregnancy brain and the 'almost' baby names

Chatting with friends today about how pregnancy does crazy things to your brain and can make you absolutely fall in love with the most random names ever.

With my DD1, she is very fortunate not to be called 'Mango' (which my pregnancy brain decided was just the best name i had ever heard) 🙈🤣

One of the girls today had 'Skype' on her final list but hubby thankfully vetoed it, another wanted to call her son 'Duke'.

Has this happened to anyone else and you look back and think what the heck was I thinking? I don't just mean normal names you didn't pick, I mean totally random words that non pregnant you wouldn't even entertain!

Sapphire if it was a girl.

Thankfully I had a boy!

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 28/09/2024 21:16

My maiden name is Leary (outing I know but I don't care) and for a fleeting moment I thought it would be great to name my son Lear (yes like King Lear)

Same!! Maybe it was googling your thread that put me off it 😂

Pregnant again though, so there’s still a possibility for a little Anemone…

Edited as misspelled Anemone. 😂😂😂

Edited

Do it! 😂

Moth

I was at least going to put Timothy on the birth certificate. DH talked me out of it and DS is very grateful!

Also Zeb short for Zebedee, which I maintain DS could have pulled off! (But for which he is also grateful to DH for preventing)

MelainesLaugh · 28/09/2024 21:43

Medal for my DD. I have absolutely no idea where that came from in my bizarre brain. I thought it would be amazing taking a little girl called Medal swimming.

My DH said no f-ing way!!!!

Katrinawaves · 28/09/2024 21:50

I know someone who called her kid Zebedee (neither she nor her partner had any family history or heritage which might have normalised that). We all blinked when we were told but have moved on 😂

Dh wanted Ilsa for a girl, or Ragnor for a boy.
They're not to my taste personally.

Vikings fan?

TripleCarber · 28/09/2024 23:08

@PrincessHoneysuckle yes! 😂 all his suggestions were exclusively either Viking names or footballer names.

Ingenue for a girl - despite the meaning, I still think it sounds so pretty in a French accent. Also Reverie- which is probably a touch more useable, but I still wouldn’t have actually done it 🤣.

Wolf for a boy - which isn’t that weird actually (still went for something much more “normal” though).

I know a 17 year old Wolf. Friends call him Wolfie. I always wonder what will happen after the bubble of independent school. I hope he is do confident in himself now that he won't give a shit what anythings of his name.

sel2223 · 29/09/2024 18:21

Some of the names on this thread, absolutely brilliant!
Pleased it wasn't just me 🤣🤣

I know a baby Velvet. She has a sister with an equally unusual name. Lovely family despite their taste in baby names!

I wanted either Cherry or Sherry. Still not over that tbh. 😂

Cherry is actually cute 🍒 . I suspect it is only not used because of the “ can I pop your cherry” association, but it’s actually very sweet.

So popular as a name atm and yet wolves really are just not very nice. It’s the glassy, mean eyes that really bother me. And that’s before you even talk about fangs and killing things.

That’s cool.

Toyed with Watt, Yorick and Gulliver. Still think they are all pretty awesome.

Alas poor....

CheckerboardCheck · 29/09/2024 20:48

We really struggled with a name....

One day I decided that I absolutely loved Jed, that was the name (I still secretly like it), husband came home and was said "Jed, as in Jedward" the weird group on X Factor. I cried so much 😂

ChristmasJumpers · 29/09/2024 20:55

I am 19 weeks pregnant and trying to convince DH that Max is a perfectly good middle name for a girl 😂 deep down I know it is not, but I think it sounds cool!

DismantleMe · 29/09/2024 20:56

DS2 would have been Moss if DH and DM hadn't staged an intervention. If we'd ever had another DH would have been terrified I'd rewatch The IT crowd while pregnant again 😂

My grandmother knew a Maxine - she got Max for short. You could also toy with things like Maxima…

Gulliver is quite nice.
I think Watt would be tricky in practice:

X:What?
Watt: what?
x: no I said what, not Watt.
Watt: well what?
X: no I’m not asking you Watt
Watt : WTF!

NomenNudum · 30/09/2024 06:30

Well exactly
