Hello, our son is called George & we’re expecting a little girl.

Would love your opinion on names Elizabeth (nn Libby) or Isabel (nn Bella)
which would you go for?

Are these names very popular in the UK?

Would also love any suggestions of alternative names - we like a traditional name with a cute nickname.

@IamnotwhouthinkIam , None of Isabella, Isabel or Isobel are very popular in Scotland compared with England & Wales.

Elizabeth and Isabel are my two favourite girls names, I’d have picked one of those if I’d had a girl. I love Isabel shortened to Isa pronounced eye-sa rather than Izzy.

In England and Wales last birth stats there were:
795 Elizabeth’s
33 Elisabeth’s
1089 Isabelle’s
333 Isabel’s
263 Isobel’s (hence why I said it was “widely used” in my post not more popular @KirstenBlest 🙄, although afaik it is in Scotland)

and 3699 George’s 😁

I’d probably pick based on what diminutive you like best as both Elizabeth and Isabel will likely get shortened - and I think you’d likely have to introduce them as Libby or Bella to people from day 1 to avoid Lizzie or Izzy which are the more popular nn’s in my personal experience.

I’ve been on the baby name board for a while and have watched you have regular arguments with lots of posters (and never admit when you are wrong). What is your problem? This is a baby name board, not AIBU 🙄

@KirstenBlest As do lots of people (the same with spelling mistakes), it’s really no big deal unless you are an English teacher - most people would agree reading comprehension is more important, something you seem to lack (also empathy judging by some of your posts on here).

Please leave the baby names board to those who actually want to help people, there is a Pedants board on here where you will feel right at home. Like other posters have, I’m blocking you.
