Rory vs Nathaniel (Nate)

Baby coming tomorrow by ELCS. We still can’t decide. I don’t LOVE either of them, but they are the only two my husband and I can agree on. I personally want Jude and he wants Cooper. So it’s either;

Rory or Nathaniel NN Nate

We already have a DS Miles

Many people struggle with their R and Rory is difficult to pronounce

Is choose Nathaniel

Hohofortherobbers · 23/09/2024 14:52

Prefer Nathan to Nathaniel

muddyford · 23/09/2024 14:54

Nate is grim. Another vote for Nathan.

Hohofortherobbers · 23/09/2024 14:54

Nathaniel makes me think of black adder. Nathaniel will have his turnip as God intended Grin

Rory vs Nathaniel (Nate)

Oh two of my absolute favourites.

Dd may well have had one of these if she'd been a boy, but at 4 still struggles with her r's. In hindsight, Rory wouldn't have been a good choice in her instance!

I'd go Nathaniel. I think it's a beautiful name, and love Nat, Nate and even Nathan as shortenings.

MerryMarys · 23/09/2024 14:58

Nathan or Nathaniel but NOT Nate

XMummyto4boys1girlX · 23/09/2024 15:04

@Beepeony just thought I'd say, I have a brother called Nathan.. his nickname for short was actually "Nathe" don't know why but my mum preferred that I think.. however the actual shorted nickname for Nathan is Nate.. and it's my little boy's middle name as a tribute to his uncle 😊 I personally prefer Nathan over nathaniel, but you go with the name YOU feel like is best for your baby! Goodluck for tomorrow 💙

Catandsquirrel · 23/09/2024 15:07

Probably Rory would be my final call. Close though Nathaniel isn't massively to my taste but I think Nate and Nat are lovely.

I really dislike Cooper as a given name

Good luck with the birth!

Alectoishome · 23/09/2024 15:08

They are both lovely names! Either would be so nice.
I dislike Jude and Cooper.

MerryMarys · 23/09/2024 15:17

his nickname for short was actually "Nathe"

I think Nathe is the most intuitive shortening of Nathan or Nathaniel.

Nat is short for Natalie or Natalia

Firsttimebabymummy · 23/09/2024 15:43

Nathaniel

Moreteaandchocolate · 23/09/2024 15:57

Rory would definitely get my vote over Nathaniel (which sounds a bit fussy / frilly for my taste). But I do love Nathan, so I think it would be a tie between Nathan and Rory - both are fab, and not ridiculously common - can’t go wrong!

Curiosityaintgotmeyet · 23/09/2024 16:00

100% Nate. Love it.

Sooooo many Rorys around here, boys and girls!

newfriend05 · 23/09/2024 16:57

Nathan is lovely, for some reason I think Rory is an ugly not very nice kids name 🫣

KayEmAy · 23/09/2024 17:14

This is really hard I like them both equally. I'd flip a coin or let the nurse pick. haha

shoopshoopdedoo · 23/09/2024 18:38

I love Rory. Nathaniel is nice.
I am not keen on Jude and really dislike Cooper!

All the best for tomorrow!

Gherkin32 · 23/09/2024 19:21

Love Nathaniel but all of the Nathaniel’s I know grew up to be nicknamed Fanny. Lots of people don’t pronounce their th, so it becomes Nafaniel/Fanny. It’s put me off giving my children the name sadly.

Whatever3787 · 23/09/2024 19:23

Well one of my dogs is called Rory so I’d pick that 😁

ODFOx · 23/09/2024 19:28

Nathan rather than Nathaniel.
Jude
Rory
Cooper (really?)
In that order.
Other things to consider:
Miles and:
James
Adam
Niall
Peter
Callum
Caleb
Freddie
Simon

Nate is grim. Another vote for Nathan.

This just goes to show it takes all sorts to make up the world as I think Nathan is grim and Nathaniel (Nate) is lovely Grin

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 23/09/2024 20:20

Love Nathaniel and Nate although Rory is also nice.

really don’t like Cooper

newfriend05 · 23/09/2024 20:45

Love Jude ,

Beepeony · 24/09/2024 17:06
