Love this name for a boy.

Are we going to get lots of "Azza" and "Ass-a" pronouncing?

Asser

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/09/2024 22:02

I’d pronounce it Acer like the tree. I love Asa - one of the only palindrome boys names (apart from Otto and Pip which I’m not keen on), but the “Asser” thing was the reason I didn’t use it too!

I hope actor Asa Butterfield becomes more popular so more people use it (the way Jude Law increased the popularity of Jude) - Asa deserves to be in the Top 100 like similar Ezra imo.

Ass-a

Alicenwonderland · 22/09/2024 22:07

It's a Bible name, King Asa. It's pronounced Acer as others have said. My friend growing up had this name, it's a fab name.

Cobblersorchard · 22/09/2024 22:09

The only Asa I know is Acer, so I’d say that.

Moreteaandchocolate · 22/09/2024 22:11

GraceOMalleyReturns · 22/09/2024 21:28

I’d assume ‘Ass-A’

Same.

DaftyLass · 22/09/2024 22:12

I'd say AY sah, as the one I know is pronounced that way.

Edenmum2 · 22/09/2024 22:12

A-sha

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 22/09/2024 22:13

Acer, like the tree.

greengreyblue · 22/09/2024 22:13

Ay- sa

boysmuminherts · 22/09/2024 22:14

Acer...
How do you want to pronounce it?

iNoticed · 22/09/2024 22:15

I’d probably spell it Acer (unless there is some sort of family or heritage connection to the Asa spelling) to avoid confusion.

I would pronounce it the same as Acer though.

IdaPrentice · 22/09/2024 22:15

I thought you meant the Swedish girl's name. Asa (although with a little round accent on the A) - a Swedish friend is called Asa and after about a year she told us all that it's pronounced Oh-sa.

Anyway, I digress, as this is evidently a Biblical boy's name too.

ODFOx · 22/09/2024 22:15

Like Asa Butterfield, the actor?
I'd pronounce it Aysa.

mum11970 · 22/09/2024 22:15

Ass - A

Lindy2 · 22/09/2024 22:18

I would have thought Asa Butterfield has made the name more known. He is the only Asa I've heard of but it's a pretty good name. Different but without being too unusual.

Even if people have to check the correct pronunciation when they first see it written down, it's not going to be a difficult name to say or remember after that.

Willyoushutthefrontdoor · 22/09/2024 22:19

As others have said. Aysa. We have 2 Asa's where I live. Older young men now. Never heard it anywhere else tbh. Nice name

winz · 22/09/2024 22:19

My aunt is Swedish and is called Åsa. It's pronounced O-sa. Lovely name.

wickerlady · 22/09/2024 22:20

Like NASA but without the N 😆

Sunplanner · 22/09/2024 22:23

The only one I know of is Asa Briggs, late/great historian.

Normallynumb · 22/09/2024 22:29

Ay Sah
Lovely name

FloydGerhardt · 22/09/2024 22:38

I know two people with this name and they pronounce it Orsa.

Autumnweddingguest · 22/09/2024 22:40

Ay-suh - that's how the only Asa I ever met pronounced it.

Astrabees · 22/09/2024 23:05

The footballer Asa Hartford, now 73, is the one that first came to mind when I saw this thread. I knew someone who had a son called Asa too. He would be in his forties now. Definitely pronouncer “Acer” .

Underlig · 22/09/2024 23:13

Ay-sa. It can’t be Ass-a, because that isn’t logical in English pronunciation rules.
