What strange nickname stuck with your child?

What unexpected nickname stuck with your child? I'm not talking about Alexander becoming "Alex" or Evelyn becoming "Evie"...I'm talking much more bizarre, that often has nothing to do with the name at all.

At home my sons are affectionately known as Muggins and Skeet. Skeet hasn't started school yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if he chooses to introduce himself that way!

One of my daughters is called Jasmine and gets called Ratty a lot by her siblings. Not in an unkind way but because Minnie = Mouse = Ratty apparently!! I think it it slightly unpleasant but as she is 5 she loves it 😂

Bean is what we call eldest, first name rhymed with soya so it just became Bean.
Youngest was always called babalooba (which didn't catch on I'm sure she's very grateful for that at 23 😂)

One of my sons went to pre-school with a boy that had only ever been called by his family nickname, so that was what he answered to. Squidgy. His peg and drawer were labelled with that to begin with, but by the time he left they were using his actual name.

Much as I call my kids daft names they've always known their proper name.

They've been called Squirrel, Skylark, Gooey, Little Bear, Roly Poly. They are adults and I still call them these daft names sometimes.

I have two trubs.

Big trub and little trub. Short for trouble.

CatkinToadflax · 22/09/2024 19:55

DS2 is known as Pootle.

My 81 year old aunt has always called my 77 year old mum Mouse. My mum calls my aunt Hog.

When they were growing up they had two ancient aunts who lived together who were called Aunt Mould and Aunt Slag. No one has any idea whether those were their actual names or not. In fact it had never even occurred to them how <ahem> unusual their names were until my mum recently mentioned them and my DH guffawed! (And then promptly apologised for guffawing!)

My niece is called Bob , when my sister was pregnant she nicknamed named bump BOB & it's stuck - she's in her teens now & occasionally still called it

Blessedbethefruitz · 22/09/2024 20:13

Thanks for the remind to stop calling my youngest 'stinkbutt.' Hopefully she'll be off the movicol by school age 😅

TheCultureHusks · 22/09/2024 20:16

Timothy.

She isn’t called Timothy or anything even close.

Deadringer · 22/09/2024 20:18

My bf's brother always called me Nancy, I bloody hated it! I call my dd Evie peevie weevie, and called my ds Bridy Anne when he was little, no idea why.

RainintheDesert · 22/09/2024 20:19

Bug. Too outing to say why but it has nothing to do with insects. She still responds to it, aged 18.

shakeitoffsis · 22/09/2024 20:20

Buggles and sweaties for my girls. Don't ask 😂

Mine answers to nugget, boy and noodle.

However a child I once knew thought his name was Lemon because that's what he'd been called for most of his life by his sibling who couldn't pronounce Lennon and it had stuck. It genuinely took him ages to realise it wasn't his actual name poor lamb.

I have a Lemon in my family too!!! He used to get called John Lennon but his sister couldn't pronounce it 😂

I'm really hoping it's not the same boy. I kind of love the idea that there are at least two kids out there called Lemon. 😆

RubiesandRose · 22/09/2024 20:52

My daughter is known as Porgy, Porg, Frogmella, Frogs, Boozle, and Booze and my son is Jackory, Jubs, Jub Jub, and J Dog. Don't get me started on dog names and their derivatives over the years!!

shellyleppard · 22/09/2024 20:55

My family nickname is smelly shelly. My grandparents were farmers and I used to stay with them. One day I couldn't climb over the gate so.....walked through the yard after the milking session. Cow 💩 up to my knees!!!! My nan used to introduce me to people at parties by this nickname 🤣🤣

ShillyShallySherbet · 22/09/2024 20:57

DD is Mabel even though that has absolutely nothing to do with her actual name! Really suits her though.

ShillyShallySherbet · 22/09/2024 20:59

My other DD is The President.

veritasverity · 22/09/2024 21:03

Poglet for dd, sometimes just pog or poggy (no resemblance to her given name!)
Quizle often morphs to Ziz or zizle ( and again no resemblance to his first or second name).

Anon9839399720 · 22/09/2024 21:05

Olivia. Also known as lemon.

My son started calling her baby lemon when i was pregnant and it just stuck. She just had her first birthday- lemon theme.

We also call her lemmie 🍋🍋🍋

BlackOrangeFrog · 22/09/2024 21:07

I'm Nonny.

DS is Duck.

Strobbery · 22/09/2024 21:11

My daughter is Des, or Desmond if I’m being more serious with her. Real name Jasmine!

Another daughter is Bee, (real name Alexandra) from ‘Ali Bali Bee’ - an old Scottish song.

MadisonAvenue · 22/09/2024 21:20

The Did. When he was a baby we’d say “Who did that? xxx did!” and he started to point to himself and say “Did”, and seemed to think that was his name so he naturally started being referred to as The Did and it stuck.

His brother is known as Titch, or the little ‘un, despite being 24 and 6’2.

almondflake · 22/09/2024 21:21

Mine was always "kateykerbygrip " and my brother was "grimbo gribbins " no idea why , my granddaughter has always been called Binks and my youngest is called monkey because she used to cling on like a little monkey when she was a baby .

DAndreBarksdale · 22/09/2024 21:26

My niece is Weasel, my DD is bear or Bulah.

Sprinkly · 22/09/2024 21:48
