Recently found Callan pronounced like “Cal-an” and really liking it, anyone ever heard of it and thoughts ?
I post a few posts but love hearing people’s thoughts before rather than after and without giving possible names away to family/friends

I like it, but prefer Caelan or Caelus.

Moreteaandchocolate · 22/09/2024 12:16

I like it, and love the nn Cal. It’s a nice, underused name 😊 (only slight issue is it might get confused with Callum).

Babyboyno2 · 22/09/2024 12:19

@Moreteaandchocolate yeah agree with the Callum will just has the emphasis the fact it’s “an” not “um” but hopefully shouldn’t be a problem

Also really like it with the middle name James
Callan James

It's nice, @Babyboyno2 . Does it go with the surname? James is a bit of filler middle name.

pilates · 22/09/2024 14:18

I prefer Callum. He will forever be correcting people with Callan.

muddyford · 22/09/2024 14:25

I like it. Different not weird. Goes well with James.

Klippityklopp · 22/09/2024 16:29

It's quite a common name up here in Scotland and a nice name.
I prefer Cailean which is pronounced Ka line

SkaneTos · 22/09/2024 21:34

Callan James is a good name.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/09/2024 22:11

Callan is really nice - feels quite Scottish (maybe due to the Callum similarities), but I like it a lot, especially with the nn Cal.

James is the boys version of Rose/Grace/May - lovely as a classic/traditional first name but the ultimate generic middle name. Unless you are honouring someone with James, I’d personally look for a more uncommon middle name instead- Jared, Jasper, Joel? Even traditional John would be more unusual these days.

Alwayschangingthings · 23/09/2024 10:30

I like it and it goes with your middle name, that you can pick for whatever reason you want!

Pumpkindoodles · 23/09/2024 10:37

I like it, was on my list but I did worry I’d be forever saying no not Callum
but if you introduce him as cal sometimes that would negate that issue, I think cal is a nice nn too.
I also had James on my list for a middle name but I think its really popular as a middle name at the moment, for girls too

SonicTheHodgeheg · 23/09/2024 10:40

I think that he’d be constantly correcting people who think it’s Callum. Cal is cool whether a child or adult.

JosieK8 · 23/09/2024 21:22

My neighbour has a 2 year old Callan (dad is Irish) and we call him Cal. No one ever thinks it’s Callum or struggles to say it. I think it’s a great name. I guess just be aware people may think you’re Irish.

Babyboyno2 · 23/09/2024 22:38

which spelling would be better Callan or Calan ? Torn between them

KirstenBlest · 23/09/2024 22:54

Calan (KAL-ann) is Welsh but hardly used as a first name, as it's meaning is linked to New Year.
Stick with Callan.
