Louis….. and Charlotte?

We are thinking of calling our baby boy due soon, Louis. However my name is Charlotte - although I usually get called a short form of this apart from by family.

Just wondering if this is weird given the royal connection or if people wouldn’t make this association. Like I say I am not usually referred to as Charlotte in social settings 🤣

We love the name Louis and nothing else feels quite right.

Siblings called Charlotte and Louis might have overtones of the royals but mother/ son does not.

Lovely names. It will be fine to use Louis, especially as you are not generally known as Charlotte. I only noticed some years after our children were born that both they and I have first names used by the Royal Family. (It would probaby have been more obvious if my husband had been Charles or Philip or similar, I suppose!) People do occasionally mention it but they are such common names that it's not an issue at all. Good luck with your little one!

It’s absolutely fine! Maybe if he had an older sibling named Charlotte people might think of the royals, but otherwise I don’t think anyone will notice or care.

Edited to add - I love the name Louis! Great choice

It's fine. Both are really nice names. I think if you had three called Louis Charlotte
and George folk might wonder but otherwise nobody will notice.

sel2223 · 18/09/2024 10:24

Siblings yes, mum and son no. Go for it

Firsttimebabymummy · 18/09/2024 10:27

Absolutely fine

It's absolutely fine. They're both classic and relatively popular - and I would imagine very few people would even notice a mother/son name combo (tbh I wouldn't even really register the royal connection as a sibling combo, it's not like having an Archie and Lilibet or similar!).

Love the name Louis by the way 🙂

I think it would probably occur to me with siblings - but mother/son is fine.

My son (now in his 30s) is called Harry, and when I was pregnant again I did consider William for a boy, but ruled it out for obvious reasons 😄 (She turned out to be a girl anyway.)

ETA Harry wasn't such a popular name then as now, and people did quite often ask if he was named after Prince Harry!

I agree with this!

miniaturepixieonacid · 18/09/2024 21:45

Oh, yes - fine. I thought you were going to say you have a daughter called Charlotte. Very few people will associate a child's name with their parent's.

BoleynMemories13 · 18/09/2024 23:25

Total none issue. For starters, you say you're not even known as Charlotte by most people. Even if you were, it's fine. For siblings, I think you'd get lots of Royal comments if you had a Charlotte and Louis (not a major problem but could become annoying) but for a mother and son I don't see the problem at all.

Go for the name you love.

I agree with this!

Me too!

RedOnyx · 19/09/2024 10:00

I think it's fine. If it was siblings people might notice the connection but mother and son I doubt it.

okayhescereal · 19/09/2024 10:08

Outing but...We have friends who are Will and Lizzie, and their oldest DC is Harry...they're discussing baby names for DC2 (due in Feb) and apparently they like Charlie (Charles/Charlotte) and Georgie (George/Georgina)...

I pointed about the royal connection and they seemed genuinely oblivious, like I'm the only one who pointed it out.

So, I think you'll be fine!

MrsB2019x · 19/09/2024 13:13

If they were siblings I’d raise an eyebrow but not as mother and son, go for it! It’s a lovely name :)
